Disciplinary 2024

One thing that may save Mbye is that as far as I can see there is no flexion of the head.

With Wellens saying in his presser that changes had to be made I was clinging on to the hope that we might see Mbye take over from Dodd at 7. I'm hoping that's why we're keen to appeal rather than Clark being out. Aside from anything, we should be appealing because it's as soft as anything.
Or replace Lomax at 6 given how unfit and pi$$ poor he was on Friday as well.

TBH even if Mbye gets banned do we have anything to lose in dropping one of Dodd or Lomax and giving one of the young kids like Whitby or Robertson a run out ?
Lets face it its been done before, Grace made his debut against the pies, so did Scott Moore and he was only 16.

It's a hell of a game to throw Whitby or Robertson into. They have very good centres and back rows and there would be a lot of heavy traffic coming the way of any debutant half back we picked. I don't think it would be much good either for the team or for the young player.

Throwing a 25 year-old (mostly) third division player in to play against Wigan is the stuff of nightmares.

It's the guys at the top of the pay and experience scales who've been letting the team down most. If we crash and burn against Wigan because of a 24-year old with limited experience we're in a bigger mess than any of us thought.

Is that an oblique dig at my attempt at a humorous post about Burns because if it is why not make it clear?

If Clarke is still not right and Mbye remains banned for the game what are your suggestions at hooker? Do you want Knowles and another play Jack of all trades in the position rather than use a squad player who did alright on loan to Crusaders and who is a specialist in the position? You have a low opinion of Ritson, does that extend to Burns? If they’re as bad as you may (I may be doing a disservice to you) think why are they in the squad?

Matty Peet has a squad and he doesn’t seem afraid to use it. We have a squad and some of our fans think they’re too young or just aren’t good enough. If that view’s right what are we doing when signing youngsters and development players from lower divisions? Should we have persisted with Walmsley because he was only from a Championship club and not the all conquering NRL?

I know Wigan’s a tough one but I really don’t think Peet would share your view if he had key players missing.

I agree, Wigan have every first team 9 out on Friday and Peet is talking about bringing the junior 9’s in (he suggested they could have a few juniors playing)

I’ve no doubt whatsoever that if Clark & Mbye are out wellens will start Knowles at 9 (if back as expected) and Burns on the bench

If Mbye or Clark are available he’ll flog them for 80 minutes

I hadn’t read your post and still haven’t read the original or beyond the first sentence of this one I’ve quoted. Either I agree or disagree, whatever you want me to do, I’m not reading either.

That must be the most evasive reply I’ve seen but fair enough.

At least Burns has a decent pass from the PTB, and he had one decent run during limited minutes.

I wouldn't say he is a speedster out of the dummy half. But he is very dangerous near the line. His lack of height combined with the power he generates in his legs means if you aren't paying attention he can be over in the blink of an eye. We still need to see more in terms of talent. But he has the right attitude, workrate and if he can calm his nerves and just concentrate on putting the ball in the right spot (which I'd say is one of his strengths) then he's definitely a viable squad player. It's noticeable that Saints had him occupying the loose forward position in the scrums which tells you something about his passing.

Unfortunately, throwing him in at the deep end before at hostile crowd at Wigan game #2 is really stacking the deck against him. Hopefully he'll do fine. One thing is for sure - we're going to need every last scrap of his defensive intensity.

Oh wonderful!
With potentially no Clark, Roby might be getting a call at this rate. Seriously though i would move Dodd into 9 and Welsby into the halves. Downside to that being Bennison at Fb but difficult to see other options. Bell to 9 but that leaves us with no recognised Lf with Knowles still out.

Is this a "Are you fit, Daryl?" ... "Sure, I'm ok" situation or a "I know you're crocked and in no fit state to play ... but we're screwed" .... "OK coach, shoot me up with Novacaine and I'm ready to go" situation?
