I reckon Shenton improved a bit after leaving Cas. Maybe just looked better in a better team though.

Yeh to be fair i defended Shenton myself when others had it in for him in a Saints shirt. Shenton was good against retreating defences. If you lay him a decent platform he was a good wingers centre. Our problem at that time is that we just lobbed him the ball expecting him to create something from nothing and thats not his game.

He was also unfortunate to play in a team that barely passed to the centres and it became clear over his time at Saints and then subsequent success back at Castleford that he was very much a left centre. The right to left plays that Cas won the LLS with relied on getting Shenton on the outside shoulder of his opposite number and when he did he was devastating. 41 tries for his outside winger and dream team appearances for himself, his winger and his inside 2nd row. It’s obvious he was misused by Saints however if we had used him at left centre we may not have seen the emergence and development of Percival like we have.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Bad timing regarding the Shenton signing,2 young inexperienced halves and not a good pack resulted in poor service to his side.

14 players are off contract and many of them are past their peak and getting nearer to retirement.

In a way, it is an interesting appointment as they could have potentially gone with two coaches who have won trophies in either Wane or McDermott and I'd have been a little more worried if it had been either of them given their previous records at Wigan and Leeds respectively.
Might that be the reason Warrington have gone for Powell? He's gone through a couple rebuilds during his tenure at Cas, losing players like Denny Solomona, Luke Dorn, Gale etc. To win the LLS as he did and to coach 3 MOS during his time there, tells you he's a very good coach. I think Wire will be looking for him to bring on Matty Ashton and Danny Walker amongst others and it will be interesting to see how he does with the extra financial backing when it comes to recruitment. Cas are good to watch too.

On his way to play for Holbrook in the NRL according to the latest rumours.

Now Clayton Friend has announced his immediate retirement there might be more than one club in the NRL after Clarke.

Briers leaving Wire at the end of the season.

Wonder if he'll take a head coach position somewhere.

Always had a soft spot for briers. When he is on telly it is clear he still holds a torch for us.

If not I'd have him on our coaching staff.

All of Price's backroom gone. Bit hard on Briers. wouldn't mind seeing him do something with our attack.

25 years loyal service. It seems very hard on him and I hope he gets something else pretty soon.

Always remember him when he was an academy player selling tickets sat astride his bike at the clubhouse end turnstiles.
