You've gotta love the Aussies - could you imagine a magistrate over here saying, "you've gone from the penthouse to the shithouse" and the press putting it in print?

I’m sure Wire must have some room on their Salary Cap.

I wonder if he fancies a few games on the wing?

I'm not sure what the situation is? Is he still banned from the NRL? Just that the RFL said that they'd mirror any ban over here didn't they?

Awkward one really, I think these days Saints try to have a moral standard so they most probably wouldn't want him back but then again would we want him playing for another SL team.

Then again we took him with a drug ban so you never know

Would you really want him back after his impression of the Invisible Man for the second half of the season?

I've no idea to be honest, they don't seem too bothered him playing in Spain so who knows. It seems like one of those NRL things were they take the moral high ground and then forget about it a shirt time after.

Its a weird one as iirc Todd Carney was told by the NRL that they would not accept his registration with any club, yet there was little issue with him coming over and playing for Catalan, other than them paying a bond for his registration, and Carneys rap sheet was considerably longer than Barbas.

Sounds a bit more open and honest than a funny 'secret' handshake!

Would I have Barba back? I'm not sure.
He did go missing during the second part of that season, but he certainly made us feel 'alive' again for the first bit!

Yeah, we're not the only ones who make it up as they go along. I wonder if Barba has upset someone high up or maybe Carney had a friend high up.

Didnt Barba have previous with Greenberg when they were at the bulldogs and that’s why he couldn’t wait to throw the book at him?

    Sure I read that somewhere.

Greenberg was appointed to make the NRL seem proactive in cleaning up the issues around club and player behaviour, flexible salary cap at the Eels and the 2010 incidents around Carney, Monaghan and the players accused of gang rape.
This was during the inception of the social media explosion and players since have naturally become more guarded as they are brought up with these consequences.
He is now viewed in some teams board rooms as authoritative on all matters and inflexible., his popularity waning.
He seemed to have it in for Benny and he was almost certainly not impartial in his judgements towards him, a bit like a certain referee is towards us.

Perhaps he can replace or play alongside your centre who allegedly likes GBH’ing his missus?

He’d fit right in with your superior facilities......

Not really sure what your point is, I was talking about his commitment rather than his moral standards.
As for the “facilities” point ...

Imagine if we had a Domestic Violence policy similar to what they have in Major League Baseball, Gelling would be banned for at least half a season based on the evidence currently out there and likely permanently banned if convicted. At the end of the day players are meant to be role models any controversy off the field brings bad publicity to the sport, something we need to avoid, i am not saying the players need to be perfect but there must be a code of conduct they have to follow off the field, domestic violence has to be a major no-no in that, with according serious punishment.

That’s what your tinpot club claimed when they “Had doubts about Signing Barba”

My point was that you’re shit.

There’s only 3 big clubs in SL. You’re in the also-rans with Hudds, Cas and Hull. Occasional LLS, losing GF’s and the odd Challenge Cup.

Greenberg was Bulldogs CEO in 2013 when the first allegations of wife beating were levelled at Barba (in a Murdoch paper). Ainsley refused to accuse him and Greenberg let it go. Greenberg was criticised and it stung him.

When Barba was banned for 12 games for his positive coke test, Greenberg seemed to take it personally when Barba figured he'd serve his ban by playing RU on a fat short-term contract, and Greenberg spitefully declared the ban would only commence when he returned to the NRL, but Barba again tried to circumvent that by signing a SL contract (pity for us the RFL kissed NRL arse... although if the scum or Leeds would have signed him, I'm not convinced they would have taken the same stance)

When Barba flipped in the Townsville casino, Greenberg saw the opportunity to get his revenge.

Cheers mate, I thought I’d read that before but couldn’t remember the details.

In a nutshell: no criminal conviction for assaulting his brother in law. There is a clause in his Spanish contract that states if he is approached by an NRL or SL club he will be released. Can’t see it happening here.
