Roger Owen went berserk in The Market in Bridge Street. Ended up brawling with doorstaff and police outside. Folklore said the police had to run him over with a van to finally overpower him!

Fair play to Stretch, he made something of himself, done alright with the birds too.

I'd take a dig off Evans and a boot up the arse from George Mann for a go with that lot.

Lets say the police dog did not stop him. The old copper topped pub tables, he was swinging one around with it lifted above his head and swung at power with one hand.

I seem to remember a welsh forward lodging above a chippy in westfield st .
He use to pass a basket down on a rope for the lady to put his split & fish in .
But Stuart Evans was a monster no doubt .

That was the story when it happened. Jonty Pilk was never mentioned. At the time it was supposedly in Mr Chans in North road.

I seem to remember it being Tony Burke or Forber who decked him. He apparently went straight to the front of the Q and when questioned said "do you know who I am" BANG!

The original version I heard was Stuart evans in the Chinese on knowsley road

Thee were either many different fights in chippys involving rugby players at this time or Chinese whispers, no pun intended

HaHa Seems that all the fight memoirs of us all have morphed into one big chippy royal rumble involving half a dozen legends.

    Re Burke and Forber

    I recall the following tales

Burke - Was pranked by other players at an end of season awards do and lost it . Sinks pulled off walls etc.

Forber - Was suppossed to have lamped another player for "domestic" issues, don't know the other party.

    In the papers so factual.
The famous Ledger,Forber Arky fracas in Cindys.

Ledger adjusted a female's clothing without permission.
    Boyfriend not happy.
    It escalated.
    Arky intervened.
Forber pinned someone against a wall and quoted from papers
    as saying
"don't you know who I am, I'm the hardest man is Sthelens"

All a bit tame these days, it's all Nados "for a feed" and Costas.

Tony Burke incident was much closer to home as I recall.

Lol. All's that's missing are a few Roy Hagg tales. Interestingly, I don't think anyone ever pranked Roy as despite his reputation as a 'loveable' character, he also carried a reputation as a hard case. I was too young at the time, but I believe Eddie Syzmala once got 'done' by Roy.

Also remember a retired Barry Ledger getting up to a few stunts in the Woodies.

The Forber domestic issues one is true. Don't remember the name of the guy he hit, he was a prop from yorkshire (maybe Halifax?) with browny ginger hair. It was at Joe Pickavance's house at a players Christmas party.

Heard Arky was a real hard case but I've heard a tale or two of an ex-miner from Parr more than holding his own with Arky in one of the pubs in Sutton?

I used to go to the match with one of the Ledger's, who went by the name "Sheets" as in 3 sheets to the wind.

Remember being at Naughton Park when Offiah burst on the scene and Offiah went round Ledger on the outside. Ledger just aimed a kick at him and connected.

Me and my mates (early teens probably) cheered without thinking how we were surrounded by Widnes fans, and this old bloke pushed my mate off the wall he was sitting on and all these angry Smellies began acting threatening. We gave it legs back to the main bulk of the Saints fans.
