NEVER WRITE OFF THE SAINTS

Appreciate it’s a couple of years old and he might not be off the drink now but I thought it was a decent read and looks as though he’s done a bit of growing up.

Looking forward to see him play. The complete opposite of Thompson.
On paper a much better fit.
One question regarding him and hopoate?
Is the option in the club or the players favour?
Never made clear in press releases and interviews

He’s a big body. I don’t watch Manly much up. Can he play a bit of prop or is he solely a back rower?

A fair few injuries that leaves a bit of a question mark over him. He’s not played a lot this year, either and has played 64 minutes over recent weeks.

A left edge of Dodd, Mata'utia, Percival & Grace, a right edge of Lomax, Sironen, Hopoate & Makinson with Welsby floating looks very strong. Then you've got the likes of Walmsley, Roby, Knowles, Lees, Paasi going through the middle. I think a few of us were thinking next season might be a transition period with so many big players leaving but with the signings we are making along with the excitement of Dodd and Welsby we can expect to be up there challenging for the lot again.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.
I hope he is better than our most recent signing from Manly
Not seen a great deal of him.
Hopefully he can put his injuries behind him and prove to be a good signing for us.
As has been said he's a big body with some ball handling ability from his early days. The big worry would be his injury record. This season he got injured in round 1 and has only just made it back in round 20. If he can stay on the field I think he will offer more than Thompson. I am hopeful he will go well over here.
Interesting and detailed analysis taken from one poster on the Manly forum ;
Sirro Pros:
Experience, Fwd Leader
Perspective: Long time in Manly System under multiple coaches/coaching staff
Ex-5/8th with Ball-playing capability
Aged 28, Big Unit, Fwds are late-bloomers; 28 is arguably close to peak-powers
Versatile potential between 2nd-row and Prop
Sirro Cons:
Injury Prone, Limited to 62 games over 5 seasons for MWSE
Has lost some mobility off the back of injuries
Undeniably superior alternative options for 2nd row currently exist (Guac/Schuster/Lawton)
Undeniably superior alternative options for Prop currently exist (Marty/Keppie/Tent/Aloiai)
Purported Salary bloat when compared to current better options
Play-stifling instincts (default cutting back in against the grain, starving outside backs - seems the only remaining play in his repertoire)
Yeah, his experience at 6 plus reports that he has ball-playing skills had me happy.
But that report from a Manly fan is a bit concerning, especially as Woolf doesn't seem to coach second rowers to run good lines between players then release as they hit the line, or get their hands through to feed the centre. And as others have said, a catalogue of injuries and surgery (shoulder, knee, neck, pectoral) through the course of his career have limited his appearances. Think 22 games in a whole season is his record.
Hope he is brilliant, but I'll not get too excited just yet.
If he's anything like his old man he'll do for me, always rated Paul Sironen. Wonder if he'll have a "word" with Barrie McDermott on his behalf after the shocking elbow he stuck on him years ago.
Does that mean we aren't after Taukeiaho?
I hope not, was really hoping to see him in the redvee
I have my first day in the office since Feb 2020 and Saints go and announce a signing! Typical!
Makes the Hurrell rumours a lot more tolerable as he should be covered a lot more by having Sironen as first choice.
In: Will Hopoate (Canterbury Bulldogs), Curtis Sironen (Manly Sea Eagles)
Out: James Bentley (Leeds Rhinos), Joel Thompson (Retiring), Kevin Naiqama (Australia/ Retiring?), Lachlan Coote (Hull KR)
Retained; Tommy Makinson, Jack Welsby, Regan Grace, Johnny Lomax, Alex Walmsley, Jake Wingfield, Josh Simm, James Roby, Joe Batchelor, LMS (Kristian Woolf)
Outstanding: Kyle Amor, Theo Fages
Since the rumours thread is broken (and only showing posts up to the end of August…)
Makes the Hurrell rumours even more nonsensical.
With Sironen, we'll have him, Mata'utia and Batchelor as second rowers, plus Wingfield and Foster (both of whom look like talents).
In the centres, we have Percival & Hopoate, plus Simm.
We just don't need Hurrell, who would be an unnecessary luxury signing which, in a salary-capped sport, is ludicrous.
To add, if Amor is going, then we need another prop, because I don't think anyone rates Norman enough. And we would have no cover at halfback.
Im trying to be positive about the Sironen signing but looking at his recent fitness Im hoping we haven’t put him on big money.
