    My guess would be:

    Coote
    Makinson
    Naiqama
    Simm
    Grace
    Lomax
    Fages
    Walmsley
    Roby
    Lees
    Bentley
    Thompson
    Matautia

    Smith
    Amor
    LMS
    Batchelor

Dodd, Welsby, Wingfield, Nisbet to miss out.

Having said that, Welsby at 4 wouldn't shock me; nor would Wingfield in place of Batchelor.

    For me:

    Coote Full back
    Welsby Centre
    Batchelor on the bench

However I wouldn't be surprised to see Welsby drop out for Simm. Don't think there's any point in a back on the bench

I have a sneaking suspicion after watching the pre-season game that Wingfield may have edged ahead of Bachelor in the pecking order. He looks like a good, tough player.

Is it me or does anybody else think Batchelor's not been given a decent go of it? I'd like to have seen him get a run of games.

Coote at fullback and Welsby at centre, I reckon. Would be nice to see Simm get a go there but I think Welsby did enough of a job there last year to get a go ahead of Simm at this moment in time. I’d have Wingfield on the bench as well, Batchelor has not done a lot wrong when he’s played but he’s hardly ripped it up, give Wingfield a go.

I think it’s 99% nailed on that Welsby will play centre if Coote is fit. He’s first choice cover for the backs.

I'll be ••••ed off if Welsby plays centre.

    Same as YG for me.

I’d like to see Simm get a go, but last year Welsby probably played his best at centre

I think Simm should be given an outing on Thursday. We need to give as many of these youngsters a game when we can with their being no reserve team games. No disrespect to them but it should be a good fixture to play in. If it were a big match then I might be tempted to go with Welsby there. If Hurrell is back for Leeds then that would be a defensive test for whoever the following week.

If Hurrell is fit for the Leeds game then he’ll be up against Naiqama anyway. He missed a few tackles last week so he needs to get that sorted v Hull KR and then be sure of his tackles in the cup match.

I suppose we’re going to find out this week if Matautia is ever going to get used as a centre. Looking at the shape of him I’m guessing that his three-quarter days are behind him.

I would be absolutely amazed if we did this, for several reasons.

LMS doesn't have the passing ability to play 13 and it would massively change our style of play. Also, with Paasi missing then I'm not sure we can afford to be another "middle" light by moving Matautia to centre. It would also give us a very lightweight bench of Smith, Amor, Batchelor and Wingfield for example. Had Knowles and Paasi both been available then Matautia to centre would make more sense, but I just can't see it happening this week.

Yes i agree. Woolfs style of rugby won’t want to lose a big body from the middle of the field. It will likely be Simm or Welsby at left centre.

Confidence in Coote's fitness could be a factor.
If Welsby starts at centre and Coote breaks down then Welsby could go to 1 and Matautia to centre if needs be.

I'd rather see Simm at centre but Woolfe seems to favour Welsby.

I also prefer round pegs in round holes where possible so for me it should be Simm all day but like you said I think Woolf has a soft spot for Welsby so it wouldn't be a shock to see him there.

You know Simm is the perfect replacement but you know he's going to slot Mr St Helens Welsby in there with Coote being back.

Very likely Welsby left centre and Wingfield on the bench, Woolf has high regard for both Wingfield and Welsby, he knows Welsby can cover every position in that backline, Simm a bit unlucky because he can only play centre or wing.

I would understand that argument if he was picking someone to go on the bench, but we are talking about who is replacing our best centre. So surely you pick the best centre for the job, not the person with most utility value? It's not a pop at you obviously, but it frustrates me that we seem to be overlooking the most basic argument which is that Simm is a better centre. The fact Welsby can also play other positions is great but shouldn't be top of the criteria when picking Percy's replacement.

Simm should be centre, he needs to be given game time and an opportunity to show what he can or can’t do. It grinds my gears when I see a utility player in there when we have a ready made replacement.

For me i would like to see simm at left center but think we all no welsby will be their. Not fussed is he is as far as im concerned he can have the keys to the town.

I would like to see wingfield given a go, i saw him in the reserves and i thought he would be one who would end up as a first teamer so be good to see if he has what it takes
