What about John Butler, as far as I know he was from St Helens but played in the threequarters for Wigan.

he played for them the season they were relegated(can't remember the year) I think he scored against us in the Good Friday game that season

i vaguely recall him signing for Saints later on but don't recall him actually playing

Back in 1968 we played Wigan in a Lancs cup match (I think) around the middle of December. Brian Hogan, playing for Saints was sent off after a great punch-up with Bill Ashurst. The following day, Wigan signed Hogan and he played (on for another 10 years or so,) against us on the Boxing day game later.

If I remember correctly, the fist time we played Wigan after he left he got sent off again. He was fighting with Watson on the touchline in front of the seating stand. I remember Brian hitting Watson and getting one back, he then grabbed the bottom of Watson's jersey and pulled it over his head. He then laid into Cliff while his head and arms were trapped in the jersey.

I used to get the same bus as Brian Hogan when he was going to Parr Central and I was going to St Cuthberts. He was a few years older and so there was no danger of ever playing against him. He was scary even then.

I used to sit next to him at Parr Cent, at times that could be scary. But it was useful having him as a mate on the field or in the playground.

I don't think Matty Smith has been mentioned so far.

Best 2 months are Hune and Peptember.

Better than where I'm going anyway, I'm going down the smoke on Monday for an Afghan Visa.

Good luck with that fella, not a place I've ever worked. Nigeria was probably the worst I ever encountered, with being in the middle of the war zone in the Gulf not far behind.

I've been a few times before, I'm looking forward to it, it's like paid re-hab.

Eddie Cunningham, Tony Karalius (the one who played for us at Wembley in 1976, there is another Tony Karalius who played for Wigan as well).
