    Default Rule changes 2022

Nothing controversial - all three very positive imo

Agree they are all welcome and positive.

I think leaving out the captain's challenge is a missed opportunity.

For 'gamesmanship' relating to injuries read 'Warrington'.

What exactly is the NRL ruling on game stoppages for injuries and how does it differ from what was the practice in 2021?

Some common sense rule changes there, finally, the ball steal rule was far more complicated than it needed to be and hopefully the injury rule stops teams like Warrington abusing using injury stoppages to break up teams momentum.

Id argue pressing charges for assault, let alone a life ban, thats the act of a pure cowardly scumbag.

The trainer cannot call for a stoppage without a medical assessment, any injury that causes the game to stop, the player has to be substituted or leave the field for2 minutes

I've just read online that if a physio asks for the game to be stopped the player either needs to be substituted or have two minutes off the field

I'm still in shock that some common sense has broken out. Well done to the RFL for a change, credit where it's due.

The 'Toby King, shot by a sniper rule' is long overdue. That kind of play acting was a terrible look for the game.

I know we debated this on another thread, but I think scrums coming back plays even more into Saints hands and the space that creates for us.

When I heard about the injury new ruling I immediately thought about Toby King and with Chris H-i-a-ll leaving the wire will snap and have to dream something else up.

Yes, captain's challenge would have been welcome

I was all for not bringing back scrums. Is there a positive side to bringing them back.

A 6 man defensive line rather than a 13 man 1, more space for set moves to be done in attacking areas, in theory. Example, Zeb’s try in the 2019 final, impossible with a full defensive line.

Its good for Doddy he use to have a good quick long pass when he played in the academy. Probably gives all half backs a bit more time + space on that one play out of the scrum intead of being swalloped up by 3 players just outside the PTB. I don't think it will be a dramatic change though but a smart half back and full back will see the odd opportunity.

Good question. Hopefully not (or it's revised, because teams concede 6-agains on the first tackle after a kick to ensure their defensive line is set whilst losing hardly anything- and we're amongst the worst offenders)

The game is just as slow on turnovers with no scrums when sides have got the choice of where they want the mark from. Bring back scrums to tie in defensive players.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Could anyone enlighten me on what the NRL policy on stoppages is that we're adopting?

EDIT: Just spotted Bostik Bailey's explanation ... missed it first time.

Hopefully this is what will happens here. The player should also leave the field as early as possible as well.

I am not a fan of scrums returning I didnt think we missed them.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

Yes it will quicken the game up and make more space. For example we get a scrum and only make 10m from it. The opposition forwards now have to sprint 20m to get onside. This adds fatigue back into the game for the big blokes. No more waiting for the defence to get set.

I’d say so. They mention reverting the ball steal but no mention of reverting 6 again, plus it’s still in use in the NRL
Can't stop the spirits when they need you.

This life is more than just a read through.
