Bentley leaves. (Both to free up money)
Saints favourite to sign Scurr from Bradford.
Plus possibly looking for a hooker to replace Roby.
    Also think Coote might stay.
That would make sense. I suspect that we stand a good chance of re-signing Bentley. I guess if Leeds offer him a ton of money and a job nearer home then it most be tempting. However the club should be able to give him a good offer and he does seem to be enjoying his Rugby.

King for Kev just feels like trading your car in for a newer model.

Coote going home makes sense, he has not played to the same level since getting injured last year with Welsby looking better than him in some respects. He could be getting old or just his home life upsetting him but he has been a good signing and will leave as a crowd favourite.

Theo is a good player but doesn't seem to be a star in our side. Maybe we don't appreciate him enough or maybe he isn't a Saints style player. Either way the club seem keen to bet on Dodd as our next 7 so the writing is on the wall for Fages.

Regarding the Tomkins rumour, I assume he may be going back to Wigan after a holiday in France or he may be enjoying France enough to stay. You feel we would want to show interest to push his price up and maybe act as a smoke screen. Even with some upgraded contracts we must have some room for another quality player. Ideally someone that could cover in the halves. I suggested Connor rather than Tomkins.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

The former (just loaned to Bradford) more likely than the latter. Both are in the England Knights squad.

Have watched Scurr in the Championship.
OK but others catch the eye more.

What about a cheeky bid for Jamie Shaul ? I've no idea if he's off contract BTW but have always thought he was a real threat with the ball, good defensively too. Wind up Jake is keeping him out as we know.

I can’t understand whats happened with Shaul. He certainly wasn’t a player you would drop 2 or 3 years ago. Has he contributed to his own downfall or is it simply a case of Hodgson not rating him? Theirs definitely a capable player there.

He ruptured his acl and had a major op in November last year.

I’d rather we played Welsby at fullback than Shaul. He’s hideously overrated and woeful in defence.

Lomax at full back. Welsby and Dodd in the halves. Highly unlikely now but maybe next year.

After the Lomax/Gaskell halfback pairing years ago I don't think we will go for two inexperienced halfbacks at once.

After Walsh, Burns , Matty Smith , Hohaia I'm not seeing that much of a downside.

Andrew Johns is only doing TV work I think, could be worth a punt, or will he choose Wire for their better facilities ? Mind you Woolf would have him just playing 5 drives & a kick.

I thought Shaul was good about 3 seasons ago but for some reason he's not "kicked on".

I’ve heard we are in for Dufty but only for a season until he joins the new Brisbane side in the NRL.

Dufty would be a no brainer if Coote decides to go home even if it only for one season the guy is class and lightning fast ,he fits the bums on seats category

That works for me. Would be a great signing with a model that suits both parties.

Gives you 2022 to shop around or decide Welsby is the long term solution
( I don't think he is a FB , more an unorthodox loose forward doing a good job at centre currently).

    Make it happen Saints.

The first bit of positive Saints news I've seen on here in a little while....perfect stop gap I think. As the above poster mentions, gives us time and means we don't have to go with Welsby 1 and Dodd 7 which is a risk.

That's exactly how I see it too.

For those who don't watch NRL, this gives you an idea of what Dufty can do- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OODutQ8PXNo

If I were Saints, I'd be asking James Graham a former team mate of Dufty, to put a good a word in.
