Does it really matter when he's committed to us?

I'm happy with that as no doubt plenty of teams would've been sniffing around him.

Brilliant news hoping we can have Welsby, Simm and Todd in our back line in the next couple of seasons. My gut feeling is that Welsby with a bit more beef on the bone could be a very good ball playing loose forward very intelligent player.

    Great News!
And he’s definitely from Shevington in Wigan.

Nice news and a good prospect. Great to see Saints continue to develop from within for the present and future. Over the coming years I still think we'll benefit from some new signings - at the same time I'm really encouraged to see the club invest in home/club grown talent.

All the best Jack and look forward to see your progress over the coming years.

BBC says ""I'm made up," said the St Helens-born half-back, who can also play at full back and centre. "It's a great lift.""

Wiki says he was born in Blackbrook ()

Star/Reporter doesn't give a birth place, but says he played at Shevington then Blackbrook before signing for Saints

You only have to listen to his accent to know where he’s from.

Great news as others have said.

It'd be wrong to put pressure on a young player but I've got a good feeling about Welsby. Very natural rugby player with good vision and his height and speed will make him stand out and be difficult to stop when he fills out. He reminds of me of Leon Pryce / Jake Connor in the way he plays the game.

Still got a fair way to go but with Richardson leaving he will have more opportunities to play and gain experience. He couldn't be learning off better players in Lomax and Coote.

Very promising player and should get plenty of game time next season. Still not sure if his best position will end up being 1 or 6 but he’s only 18, plenty of time to figure it out. Glad to see him tied down for the foreseeable future.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

We have plenty of loose forwards I think Welsby will be sensational in the backs

He got a bad concussion injury late in the academy season and missed the Grand Final. I think he's been kept on for the reserves (not 100% sure) but he's been doing work in the community programme with a few of the other academy players.

Rogues... Nice of you to remind us that you beat us with a weakened team.

Seems to me that it was you who raised the GF result rather than RG.

The topic of Conversation has now moved onto Paul Sculthorpes son. I was just lighthearted mentioning that there was no need to remind us that they got one over on us in the a cademy GF
