Would be both reasonably good signings. However, its a new centre we need and a winger with pace not two forwards. If we were going for a forward it should be for a prop such as Carvell rather than a second row forward.
like it or not, we already have 2 wingers contracted for 2009 - we wont be signing any more unless we can offload either of the 2 we currently have. I agree that a new centre is top priority now though.Originally Posted by parrsaint

Who would have thought the best winger at the club would be Ade Gardener....I think im going to cry...
The Daily Telegraph PENRITH are poised to release New Zealand second-rower Tony Puletua to join the English Super League.
A member of the Panthers' 2002 premiership-winning side, Puletua is expected to sign with St Helens. His manager Allan Gainey is also holding talks with Hull this week. The release could be granted this week.
Puletua is under contract until the end of 2009 but is likely to leave after this season. Asked would Puletua be quitting Penrith early, Gainey said: "There would be a very good chance. St Helens is very interested, as is Hull.
"I have been given some assurances that, if we applied for a release, then it is pretty certain it would be forthcoming.''
If released, Penrith would then have the money to chase a marquee player. "It's up to Tony,'' Panthers football manager Mick Leary said. "He's been with us for a long time but he may want to pursue his career overseas.
"If they were to ask us, we could look upon it favourably. I've spoken to his manager but in the end it would be up to Tony.''

If we were to sign Puleutua (!) for now wouldn`t we be over the cap? Would we offload a current player? If so, who? Scully?
Whether people believe it or not, Adie Gardner is still one of the best wingers in Super League.Originally Posted by Det Sgt Sidney Bung

What does this mean? Are they going to grant him permission this week to leave at the end of the season? Does it mean that he could be released this week but is more likely to leave at the end of the season?
Or does the journalist just not know what's going on?
If we sign this puletua fella, does it mean the end of the road for Wilkin or Gilmour?
And if we sign carvell, we'll have more than enough props.
Fozzard
Cayless
Graham
Maurie
Bennett
Hargreaves
Carvell
Surely not the end of Wilkin?Originally Posted by Rob_Saints

Wilkin signed a new 3 or 4 yr deal
The club won't let go of Wilkin. If it's a choice between him and Gilmour then Gilmour will go - he's still got plenty to offer but age isn't on his side (having said that, I don't think he's much older than Puletua).
Would Puleatua count on the overseas quota?

puletua is supposed to be well off form and nowhere near his former level of performance so I'm not too sure about signing him. would rather us sign an eager youngster
According to David Howes website, Hargreaves is out of contract at the end of the season.Originally Posted by Rob_Saints
They should get rid of him to be honest. In fact IMO we shouldn't have signed him in the first place
Maybe, but tbh hes never let saints down, every game he plays he gets stuck in and he played a cracker in the wcc and in the cardiff game when he played loose against wigan.Originally Posted by Rob_Saints
yeah he's never let us down a solid player you need his kind in the squad nowt, fancy just solid plus wont take up much of salary cap.
Yeah but don't we have that in Bennett
