    Default Gyms in St Helens

Reet, Long story short, after New Year i'm going to need a new gym to use. I've trained at my current place since i was 18 so obviously don't know a great deal about other gyms.

Was wondering what gyms (if any) you lot use?
    How much are they?
    Facilities (Free weights a must)?
How busy are they at peak times (6pm)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Next to Slater's = Keiron Pickavance's gaff?

I only go to Coloseum on Sutton Road because I know the owner from years back. And before anyone says it: no, I haven't been in a while...

    I go The Hilton.

There are free weights and weights machines. treadmills, steppers , cross trainers and bikes.

Also swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

The gym isnt massive but its quite friendly , mature clientele and there are a lack of poseurs in there.

    My corporate membership is £35pm.

Best point - it is not owned by Dave Whelan.

Busiest time seems to be Monday teatime but generally not too packed.

i used to train at pickavances, the down side is that at tea time it was chocker (dont know about now) but heard on the grapevine that it isnt doing very well

jjb - you will never get training done, always full and have to queue for machines

coliseum - can you actually tain there? you have to be in and out before certain times

clock face - nice little gym, but has no cable crossover

i goto nik naylors and have done for the past year now, i think it is the best gym in town, when i go around 6ish, there are very few people in there, so im in and out in an hour or so. costs 20 pound per month and you get aerobics etc too.

Opens in the morning and shuts at night? Don't all gyms do that? Or are you talking about the off peak daytime memberships?

Anyone know if tom tat lock still owns a gym. Reason why I am asking is because my mum told me about the gym she used to go to And my mum won bodybuilding competitions and quite a lot of people did aswell. Just curious to see if it was still going

Toms gym in Lowfield Lane shut down about 12 years ago.
The building was demolished and there is now a housing estate there.

Tom's brother John who was a partner in the gym then set up his own Gym (St Helens Fitness 500) and is still running this today. It is based at Roundwood Drive next to Screwfix.

It is a really good gym with a decent amount and quality of equipment , friendly atmosphere (John is really helpful) reasonably priced and a good mix of members - some people training seriously, but no bodybuilders like in the old days of Tom's Gym.

Tom doesn't train any more and works as a taxi driver in St.Helens.
If you ever see him you will realise he hasn't trained for quite a while
