I do think though that some of that was also around Dodd just simply not being able to play the way he did before his injury. For the majority of the year he barely took then line on at all where as pre-injury his biggest threat was his running game and his ability to step the man. I hope this pre-season he can build that knee strength back up and next year he goes back to being much more of a threat. That will make a massive difference to our attack as this year all the running was left to Lomax & Welsby as the main threats. So with Lomax as we now know having to play half the year through injury that only really left us with Welsby as a major running threat at the line.
Having a fully fit Lomax & Dodd again will be a huge boost to our attacking play.

Total Rugby League have completely written us off this year. They mention Wigan winning everything and Leeds performing well, Warrington making top four. Apparently they are bold predictions.
    That's the Saints way...

Nothing like being written off before the start, great motivation.

    Clickbait bollocks.

Sadly, I did go on the site. Only other article I read was their 'Best 5 teams not to have won the Grand Final' article.

In 4th place was our 2005 team. It's a fair shout.

BUT!! What bellendery leads to the opening line of "It really is a mystery how the St Helens of 2006 managed to win the treble"

    I mean... WTF??

One of the greatest sides in SL history (it also beat the Broncos in the following year's WCC), and barely had to get out of 2nd gear all season - including in both finals (which were one-sided strolls)

But then the omit any mention of the chief reason why we fizzled out in 2005, which was (I have to be careful what I say here, as some seem curiously sensitive to criticism of the scumbag) that yard dog Newton going on a mission to end the season of half our team.

    4. St Helens – 2005

It really is a mystery how the St Helens of 2006 managed to win the treble, but the 2005 side fell short in both the Super League play-offs and the Challenge Cup. The Merseyside club won 23 out of 28 games in 2005, but lost to eventual champions Bradford Bulls in the elimination play-off which was considered a big shock at the time, especially when considering that Saints had Man of Steel winner Jamie Lyon in their side. Of course, some people could argue that the 2005 season set the platform for 2006, but it really was one that got away.

Would still argue the Leeds semi final was Lyon’s single best game for us; took a battered and broken team to within an inch of the grand final. But as you say it’s no mystery why 2005 fizzled out and 2006 was a stroll. 2004 Saints could also be in with a shout, given the long and Gleeson situation.

Haven’t read the article but assume Saints 2018 is also on the list.

As for the media writing us off; we just haven’t given them a narrative to write about. We have recruited 2 decent SL players in 2 years, and we just don’t seem to have much of a direction of a club. Even hyping the kids would be more for the media to use to back us than this “we’re waiting to see if the right player comes along” line we’re running with at the moment.

I couldn't even read the stupid site as it wanted me to register. I didn't really need it confirming it was mainly bollocks.

Looking at it I think what it’s saying (or trying to say - it’s not very well written) is that it’s a mystery how the year before walking the treble we won nothing.
