I like it when the awards shortlist stiff us. It reinforces that siege mentality of ours.
screaming in the family corner, scaring the kiddies
Indeed! It is incredible that they continually ignore our achievements isn’t it.
I think as you say it contributes as motivation to prove the ‘experts’ wrong.
You could argue that Wellens has achieved more than all the above winning the WCC, going the same distance as pies in the cup & going further than Cats in that comp & winning the same amount of matches as the others in the league.
As for Rowley just shows what a meaningless farce it all is
Andrew Webster NZ Warriors has won the NRL coach of the year
Rowley might well have done a good job if you factor finances into it. Their salary cap spend has always been a lot lower than the rest of Super League and this season it's apparantly WAY short.
Well deserved with what he's done for them.
Think Shaun Johnson can count himself very unlucky missing out on Dally M medal. Ponga (when he's fit), is a superstar though.
Good to see Herbie Farnworth making team of the year. Dom Young couldn't have been far off either!
*Not to be confused with Mike Stephenson, MBE
No George Delaney for Young Player of The Year. The three who have been nominated are fine players and deserve nomination but for the burden placed on Delaney given our injuries and the load placed on him, I think he should be nominated.
St Helens Rugby League Football Club
Hopefully this works in our favour. Only one in Dream Team, Wellens overlooked as top coach, Delaney not considered for young player of the year. What better motivation to prove them all wrong by winning the GF.
The slide towards rewarding mediocrity continues.
Matty Nicholson - 17 games
George Delaney - 19 games
Josh Thewlis - 23 games
Brad O'Neill - 25 games
So you can win the ultimate trophy against the best in the world in your first season as Head Coach, yet you're not even shortlisted as coach of the year? Just like Man of Steel, pure BS.
So winning 1 game at the start of the season wins him coach of the year? Bear in mind many of your fans were crediting the presence of Woolf for that victory. Your rugby has been dispiriting to say the least (and as a Wire fan I have enough experience of that to recognise it when I see it). Lam should be a shoe in given what they have achieved as the promoted side.
Maybe only nominate 3 coaches rather than 4 then. They only tend to nominate 3 for MoS or young player. so why 4 coaches, it means one third of the coaches in the league get nominated. I don't think anyone is suggesting Wellens is coach of the year though, we are pointing out the farce that Rowley has been nominated ahead of him.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.
I genuinely think that Rowley was put on by mistake. Someone at IMG was putting the announcement and the graphic together with the name Paul in their mind and got to Rowley alphabetically and put him on. There is no other explanation for the coach of the 7th placed team to be nominated, whilst the other 2 joint top coaches are there. Joint Top 3 and Lam makes sense. Rowley doesn’t.
Leigh's performance tonight showed the Dream Team selections to be a bit of a farce. Lam, Amone and Ipape were dreadful throughout. Lam completely anonymous throughout, Amone thoroughly dominated by KR's pack, particularly Linnet and Minchella who are always very good. Ipape was woeful too, made so many errors and KR read his runs and dealt with him easily.
They need to come up with a different system for it and align it with the Man of Steel better. Have a player ratings system and have it weighted against the standard of opposition. Play well in a 60-0 at home to Featherstone, get 3 points times by 0.2 because they are pants. Play well away to Saints and get 3 points x 1.
