Whilst the points difference is 62 saints would more likely need to put closer to 80 on Hull if catalan don't lose.

So getting second via points difference is very remote.

Salford simply need to win, I suspect not only for the sake of making the playoffs, but for their very existence given their precarious financial situation. I know Catalans thrashed Leeds, but up until that point they weren’t in great form, they only scored 18 against Wakefield. Even if Salford don’t win, I very much expect it to be a very close game. I am just saying we shouldn’t throw in the towel/ go about resting players because winning by 60-70 seems impossible. Even if we “only” win by 50, it still creates a good amount of momentum for the playoffs.

Similarly with Leigh. You would expect HKR to win and win big against a relegated Wakefield, so Leigh need to either beat Wigan or keep it very tight as a minimum to get their home playoff game. Going to be a really interesting night of rugby.

It’s not happening. Wigan or Catalans lose or we finish third, the PD thing is a distraction

If we do finish third the route would be Wire H then Catalan A obviously so made me think....

When did we last beat Wire in a KO game? I think 2008? Lost the last 5 to them.

When did we last win a KO play off game away? I think we've lost the last 6, last one we won was Halifax away in 1998.

Obviously we have won away play off games at Wigan and Wire but they weren't KO games.

So if we're going to do it from 3rd it's time to right some wrongs....

That's our strongest available 17, but he may choose to rest Bell and play LMS from the bench given it's his last home game. Options to spell Knowles with Roby and give MBye more minutes. Tough one for PW.

Been told Bell is a doubt this week as he has a sickness bug. May still play but a bit of a doubt at the moment.

I guess we haven't played many play off games away from home in the last few years because we've finished in the top two. Statistically all teams should have a poor away play off record because by definition they are playing away against higher ranked teams. Its not a very meaningful sample.

I don't think the PD position is a concern what is important is that we don't slip up in against Hull because both Leigh and Salford have very good reason to win on friday. I suspect Leigh to put on a show as I think they get a home game if they win and Salford make the play offs if they win.I would hate to slip up and finish 3rd because we took the foot off the gas.

Well it shows the challenge we face from outside the top 2 so therefore how much more difficult it can be.

It doesn't say we can't win. Don't worry.

Quite right. Swifty and Savelio are always up for it. And remember how Jake Clifford ripped us to pieces with his kicking at their place. Everyone seems to think it is just a case of 'how many?' Let's make sure of the win and hope Leigh or Wigan do us a favour.

It makes me laugh that everyone is saying that if Salford win they make the play offs. Shows how little anybody rates W.W.W.W.Warrington's chances at Huddersfield.

I'd be more concerned if it was obvious we were the 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th best team, but we currently sit joint top. Points difference has let us down but ultimately if Wigan didn't play Hull KR before the final they would probably be alot less in their for column. Catalans and Wigan also played a Leeds team that have given up which has boosted them whilst we've been playing teams fighting for the 6 recently. Luckily we get Hull tomororw which gives us a chance to claw it back slightly but its too late really, we just need to win and see what happens.

We also lost stupid games at the start of the year post WCC, which has impacted us. I honestly dont think we'd have lost to Leeds in normal circumstances. I've already alluded to the early season form of 5 defeats in 10 and since then we've lost 2 in 16.

If we finish 3rd so be it and fair play to Wigan and Catalans. One thing is for sure though, if we can get everyone bar Paasi and Wingfield in the team, nobody will want to face us in the Play Offs.

I would be tempted to give him the week off, regardless. He's earned it and we should have more than enough to see off Hull at home.

Yep that loss to Leeds at the start of the year has hurt us as it was a game that was in the bag. But as always ever onwards and upwards.

Indeed I think nearly every playoff team this week has something to play for, so it will be a case of fans watching the match whilst keeping an eye on events else where.
You look across the games and its possibly the best last day of the year there has ever been with all spot up for grabs.

Salford have a hard task against Catalan but they are at home and as has been said Catalan are not in great form, so Salford should start the game on the front foot and really until halftime they will have to play as though a playoff spot if within their grasp.
Huddersfield have been far better recently so if they can give Warrington a run for their money then so long as Warrington have not blown them away that should keep Salford motivated for the second half.

Worst scenario for Saints is Salford starting poor and Warrington starting well as that will probably end Salfords chances of putting up a fight.

As for Leigh v Wigan on paper that is an awesome end of session clash, the only issue will be do Leigh hedge their bets and save their powder for the first week of the playoffs.

Spot on. We just need to win our game and everything else will take care of itself. I have a feeling one of Cats and Crusts will slip up so it's no good chasing the points difference, making loads of errors and losing because of it.

We're 62 points behind Catalans. Huddersfield put 52 past Hull, in Hull, last week so making up 62 points isn't beyond reach. Half time on Friday will probably decide the outcome. We'll know how many points we have already scored and how many more we need, and we'll also have a feel for how the other games are going. Then we'll know whether to fight or rest.

But if it does come down to PD then it's making up 62 PLUS whatever Cats beat Salford by, which won't be known until the end of their match. I think the chance of us finishing in the top 2 on PD is infinitesimal.

Thats my wishful thinking of it, both Salford and Leigh need to win their games and have home advantage. Wigoons and Catalan had easy games last week and are going to be tested this weekend, so who knows only need one team to falter.

Let's just get the win, points difference is immaterial

Playing an extra game might be beneficial to us in some ways anyway to get Walmsley a bit fitter

Like any other week I would just be grateful for 2 points. Forget points difference, it’s not going to happen and we’ve been no where near good enough in attack to be dreaming of scoring points like that.

Exactly. 2 points vs Hull and giving game time to our comeback players is the important thing. If they come through unscathed a massive boost to our chances.

In reply to last winning a KO game away....didn't we go to Cats in the Challenge Cup sort of recently and win?

Yes but the poster specifically narrowed it to play off KO games away. Which removed that Cats win (and all cup away wins) from the sample.
