    Default Game management

I don’t want to take anything away from what was a very good win but who are our leaders on the pitch?

At 73 minutes, at one score up we get a set restart in their 20. What do we do? Take a risk and try and put it through hands resulting in a matautia knock on. We should have taken the 1 and got the ball back, meaning Warrington have to score twice. Even wellens face said it all after the knock on. We won’t get away with that in the play offs

that was typical of our play with ball in hand. The penalty at the end for the ball steal was fortunate .

How can a ball steal be fortunate?

Because it was 1 on 1 and not a penalty

Our ability to turn field possession into points is really poor. Thankfully our defence is so good that teams usually find it hard to go set to set with us.

I'm not taking anything away from the lads, we played hard and we played to our strengths. I'm just at a loss for how poor we are the ball in hand at times.

LMS hands off Vaughan as the ball is ripped out. That means Vaughan is involved. Correct call imo.

What would you have said if we went for the drop & missed, giving them a set of 7 ?
They the. Use the quota to go 80m to score in the last

Everyone around me all thought the same, 6 tackles on their 20 in centre field we should have been taking the 1 and making it a 2 score game. You have to be backing yourself to hit that DG and ending the game.

We don’t make things easy for ourselves considering how much possession we have, luckily they’ve upped their game in defence the last few weeks which could be the difference.

We were right in front of the sticks. We have a number of players who could make that kick in their sleep

They should you're right, but as above the 7 tackle aspect is putting teams off in those situations now. I'm 50/50 on it to be honest, we'd held them out for 79 mins bar one occasion so odds were they weren't going to go 90m in 6 tackles. 7 tackles starting from the 20 is a different proposition

I’m not suggesting we took the DG on the first tackle. But just play it safe for a couple of drives with the pack and then pop it over. Absolutely no need to try and force a play like that

And yet I seem to recall it took us more than a few attempts to be successful in such a position at Leeds.

Our game management was good enough to see us win and no amount of “what ifs” will change that. People seem to forget that we were missing Walmsley, Passi, Wingfield, Hurrell and Hopoate (plus Sironen for the second half) while Warrington - who always seem to see their game against us as the Grand Final - were only missing Williams (I’ve discounted Matautia and Dudson given their fans’ view of those players).

Completely agree. The DG was 100% the best option at that point. Regrettably it's not the first time we've mismanaged this type of situation. We need to be smarter in those moments in games.

I agree it was risk management from the team, a 7 tackle play or a charge down would allow Wire in our half. The players looked quite happy to contain them in their own 20 metres and make them try and go for 80-90 metres.
