Well, clearly they’ve intentionally used 12 subs, but they might have been mistakenly under the impression that this was the rule (I think it used to be 12 a few years ago?). Bizarre mistake though, even if that’s the case.

As tempting as it is to find this funny, you’ve got to feel sorry for those lads who’ve had a grand final taken away from them.

I guess it saves them the heartache of losing the final.

All season unlimited subs have been allowed in Academy games, when an injury occurs the ref encourages replacements as soon as possible and players roll and off the pitch pretty regularly. This was changed for the playoffs/semis to only allow 8 interchanges which is where the error has been made.

Apparently Warrington didn't even complain as such, just mentioned in the after match report to remind the officials to enforce the ruling. The RFL have only then worked out what happened and have picked it up and ran with it.

Pretty poor all round, and I feel for all the players involved who are missing out.

Well both teams were told the same thing and only one stuck to it.

    Pathetic from Wigan really.

Matchday Operation Manual says 8 subs for Academy games. It’s not overseen by a fourth official at Academy level, how it is in the professional game and left to clubs to police. It should really be a can of worms type moment, this, though I suspect there is little way to investigate games in more detail.

Surely there should be a fourth official for the play-offs. Failing that the ref or one of the touch judges should be assigned to police it. Still a poor show by Wigan for not realising the rules had been changed. Now the Wigan lads are missing out on a final after training for it all week and the Wire players are going in to a big match under prepared.

Only shadow on a good day was Sambou going off injured, he was having an excellent game up until that point. He, Vaughan, Dagnall, Stephans, Cowen and Robertson all in with a decent shout of being promoted to first team next year

Not watched any academy this year, but Robertson looked the pick of the bunch today. Wire's full back looked good too

Who played full back today, saw Roberts and was using a walking stick with his damaged knee yesterday. Robertson has been playing at stand off this season did he revert back to his full back position.

Can't believe Dagnall didn't get M O M for that performance. Him and Vaughan both carrying injuries looked class on the left edge together. Cowen looks like he would run through a wall for the badge, and Mcgucken was outstanding as well today. Gutted for Sambou he was also doing well after a couple of bad games, especially as the tackle that injured him was an off the ball that should've seen a card.
Great day for all the lads, there's definitely some future first teamers there.

He was excellent v Wigan last week, great footwork and pace to burn. He also saved a couple of tries. Fans of Leeds were disappointed to see him go to Wire and that's an understatement.
Is Owen Dagnall any relation to Bob Dagnall the former Saints hooker?

Not sure but his Mum posts on here so if she sees it she can at least answer your question.

There are also about another 10 from both Thatto teams not signed yet playing in the 'prospects' teams at Saints, Wigan and Warrington.

Thatto have the best coaches in the league imho and whilst other teams have been trying to be the best at 11/12/13 Thatto have played the long game and developed the players and not chased results, culminating in winning the BARLA national cup a few months ago against Shevington, the other dominant team at this age group, both face each other again in the Lancashire Cup final on the 24th at Clock Face 3PM, well worth a watch if you get chance.

Thatto beat local rivals Blackbrook away 0-54 last night in an absolutely dominant performance, whilst Thatto second team have worked up from division 5 to division 2 probably ending up in 4th and just missing promotion which is an outstanding achievement in itself.

Just on the scouting side and in all credit to Wigan they have scouts everywhere, even watching the lower league games, and have been watching Thatto since U11, Saints less so with Warrington not seeming to venture out of Warrington.

Just back from the U14 Lancashire Cup final, Thatto beat Shevington in Golden Point with an exceptional pressure 40m+ penalty in blustry conditions from Saints prospect Mason Stott, the centre who also took the MOM award, around 20 various scholarship players between the 2 two teams today, as mentioned at the game, not just the best 2 teams in the NW but the country.

Glad you mentioned that when I saw the team photo I thought I saw Will Roberts with his team shirt on. Didnít realise he had a younger brother.

Agree Robertson looked good. Good hands, turn of pace and a tall lad. The left centre looked to have a good turn of pace too and a bit of class about him

“ I was only saying good try sir” what a character. I remember when Widnes had Jim Mills, Kurt Sorensen and Brian Hogan as Props. It seemed one of the three was always banned, with the next one being banned as the first returned.
