In the 2nd update I posted on this thread, Wellens says he’s having a couple of weeks away and then will be cracking on with his rehab ready for next season so I’ll take that at face value.
I should imagine thats correct, missed out on the Grand Final and World Cup last year and potentionally another grand final this season, thats pretty hard to take and like Wello mentioned its about welfare of players. If he recovers OK it might do one more last season he must have thought a lot of life outside rugby last couple of weeks.

As for Passi thats a massive injury and I should imagine its career ending thanks to Asiati.

I agree. I hope Paasi makes a full recovery but it must be a possibility that he won’t. As for Walmsley, I hope he returns but he’s had a lot of injuries in his career, some very serious. He’s got a young family and the option to take his life in another direction. The idea that this sort of tackle is fine must be very upsetting. I wouldn’t be surprised if he calls it a day.

As usual, the RFL has got something badly wrong here in my opinion and I think we all agree on that.

Would you say this is our worse season ever for injuries/suspensions. I don’t recall having 3 props, 3 backrowers and 2 centres missing from our 21 squad for a couple of games. That also doesn’t include around 3 more players who are playing injured.

We had a few bad ones in early 2010s including 2014. At the end of the day still more than enough talent on the field to compete too. Inside the club the attitude needs to be that the players coming in have a point to prove to keep their shirt when the injured return on merit

According to Wello the hamstrings of Hopoate and Sironen were at this stage precautionary, both tight hamstrings Hopoate on the thursday training Sironen during the game.

Thought I read somewhere that Hopoate was out for 6 games? Hopefully not.

The number of hamstring injuries we've had this year has been ridiculous. Fingers crossed om both Hopoate and Sironen. We also need to be very careful with Batchelor who is coming back from the same injury. If he needs another week, then give it to him. Matautia is back next week so we don't need to rush him if theres any risk at all.

Other than Paasi and Alex, I wonder if we will get a full squad to pick from during the remainder of the season.Seems like just as someone recovers we get more injuries.

Curtis out for rest of the month..Hamstring.

We do have to question what is going on with players getting injured so soon after coming back especially the same injury. It also seems to be hamstrings with us..

    Big blow.

Sounds like Batchelor, LMS and Bennison are close though. Sione returns from suspension obviously.

With this happening to Sironen I can see Saints waiting a bit longer before these players come back.

The open training session tomorrow will be a bit of a give away as to who's fit or not for Sunday you’d think, If Batchelor & Lms are doing full training tomorrow you’d imagine they’ll be in the 17 for Sunday (providing nothing happens between then and Sunday obviously)

Every situation is different so I don’t think they’ll hold players back because we’ve been unfortunate with sironen imo

I'm hoping that this is a bit of a one-off for Sironen. He had a terrible injury record in the NRL and has been largely injury free for us. I hope he is not going to start getting lots of injuries.

If he has been rushed back and not ready then that's on the medical staff. We do seem to be picking up an alarming number of hamstring injuries so I hope this is being looked at.

Wellens said the number of hamstring injuries would be looked at. He was asked in a televised interview a month or two back.

Didn’t this happen after the last World Cup as well? Seem to recall something similar. Maybe it’s something to do with a shortened preseason.

We should be okay if we get Mata’utia and Batchelor back (though obviously Sione can’t play front row without Sironen back). Would be nice to have a few games if just players returning though

He could if Royle remains in the back row

Royle is an interesting case. He's captained every team he's played in at Saints but never really broken into the first team even at 23. You've got to wonder where he's headed.

I still think he will end up in the championship or bottom of SL. Where if he wants that, I think he will have a successful career. I feel a bit sorry for him he has the skill and has the heart, just lacks size for a SL SR. However he is a good back up for us right now.

I wouldn't write him off just yet - he's done a very decent job over the past two weeks. I wouldn't imagine he'll be on a big wedge and is a good squad player. Hopefully, he continue to show his worth over the remainder of the season.

I’m not disagreeing, and when I said if wants the championship, that was assuming he didn’t want to stay with us as 4th choice at best. He has not let us down as a backup the past couple of weeks.

If he gets the opportunity of more games it might be possible for him to go up a notch if he does that he will be very useful. At the moment he very much reminds me of how Ashurst's career panned out.

Matty Foster was a great prospect before he got all those injuries, I should imagine the club will weigh up the contracts of Foster and Royle if things are getting tight on the salary cap.
