    Default Injury Update

    https://www.sthelensstar.co.uk/sport...wf7KR2eSIir9gw

Hurrell out for around 4 weeks by the sounds of it. Percival should slot back in to replace him on Sunday.

No mention of Batchelor and Sironen. At least 1 of them would be a real boost.

As it stands we are still 9 missing - Hurrell, Walmsley, Paasi, Bennison, Wingfield, LMS, Batchelor, Sironen, Matautia (suspended).

It doesn't sit well with me that he's done that early doors and Davies has been on the bench for 75 minutes. Same with Walmsley being put back on with torn ligaments.

Fair play to the lads for doing it, but they shouldn't be allowed to do so by either the coach or the medical team. Very short sighted and shows a complete lack of trust in the squad players.

Sironen has apparently told a fan he’s playing who saw him yesterday. Hopefully that’s true and not made up

Fingers crossed. We need him and Batchelor back but we also need them to last the season.

If and when we get them two plus LMS and Matautia back I think we have enough to still fancy our chances. But with Walmsley, Paasi and Wingfield gone I don't think we can afford to lose anyone else for the games that matter at the back end.

Norman, Royle, Baxter, etc. can do a job for now but with all due respect to those lads I wouldn't want to head into a knockout game with those in the 17.

Never good news for a player to be injured, however if anyone needed a rest and chance to recharge its Hurrell. A fully fit Konnie going into play offs would be big boost. Worrying no mention of batch or sirinon considering they were close to making Leeds game. Out of the 9 Bennison behind ritson anyway in Wello's eyes, Wingfield was struggling for game time ahead of Knowles and Bell and Deleaney has stepped up brilliantly to cover Lms absence. Getting Batch Sirinon and Matautia back in coming weeks is key to our chances of a strong end of season.

I agree, when those 3 are back I would go with:

    Lees
    Roby
    Knowles
    Batchelor
    Sironen
    Bell

    Mbye
    Matautia
    LMS
    Delaney

I think that would still give us enough to beat anyone on our day with a full 1-7 too.

Those 3 lads did a good job last week, especially Royle, deserve another game in my opinion.

To be fair Hurrell gets injured in the first 10 mins of every game for most of the season. WIth Walmsley most likely his decision to get patched up because a win was a cup final, they probably got the pitch side diagnosis wrong.

That is still strong without two important cogs in the forwards. Gives me some degree of hope. However, when are we likely to be able to play this team is anyone's guess and once we can, how long that will last before the inevitable injury/suspension.

These injuries we've had this season have been insane. We've done very well considering in my opinion. I bet we've only come close to playing a full strength team once or twice all year. It feels like the physical toll of the last 4 years, the World Cup and then WCC have caught up on this season.

Fingers crossed Hurrell is nicely rested and fit for the Play Offs and we can get some bodies back soon. Sironen and Batchelor along with LMS and Matautia will be big boosts for us in the next few weeks.

I agree pretty much with all the above. It is bad news, but with Hopoate fit and playing well, it’s not a complete disaster in my view. Hurrell needed a break so I hope he comes back fit in a month.

It’s still in the forwards where the problem is and we need the three back. Is Foster fit and ready yet as well.

Royle had a good game too and I think he’s under rated.

Knowles to prop forward for the rest of the season, where I think he would do a very good job; shades of Andy Platt!

At best it's looking like.this for Sunday:

Welsby, Makinson, Hopoate, Percival, Ritson, Lomax, Dodd, Lees, Roby, Delaney, Bell, Sironen, Knowles.
    Subs: Mbye, Royle, Norman, Davies.

If no Sironen then Baxter on the bench, Royle starting.

Sunday be tough but all being well should have a fairly strong side by Hudds.

Reports/rumours suggest all is not great in the Salford camp. That could be some fortunate timing for us.

Wingfield with an outside chance of being back for the end of the season. That would certainly be a welcome boost.

all makes for pretty depressing reading all that. Batchelor has had a bad season for injuries starting in the WCC phase.

Never been a fan of Royle. I’ve said before that he was destined for the championship, but I have to hold my hand up and say he didn’t let anyone down last week.

Remarkably strong side given the absentees.
