I listened to the 40/20 podcast a few weeks ago with the Keighley directors. Absolute dreamers living in cloud cuckoo land was my overall impression. One of their major ideas was blowing huge part of the SL budget on getting Lady Ga Ga (or similar) for the pre grand final entertainment.

I gather from the League Express write up that Catalans and Toulouse were not eligible to vote. Anyone know why?

As a regular attendee to the Grand Final, although I don't particularly enjoy it because of all the drunks, the idea of someone like Lady Ga Ga would certainly encourage me........not to go, who even listens to the band's we have on as pre match entertainment at Saints, far better to have just a DJ playing requests for named spectators, birthdays etc. I don't suppose Basil Lowe is still around to play records from Rothery Radio

Salford abstained from voting, though messed up the voting form and actually wanted to vote yes.
Barrow, Batley, Featherstone and Keighley voted no in the Championship. Whitehaven abstained.
Dewsbury, London Skolars and Hunslet voted against it in League 1 and West Wales abstained.

Skolars voting no under new ownership is very odd...

The ownership hasn’t been passed by The RFL, has it?

Interesting article in today's Guardian, under the headline: 'Rugby's rickety structure leaves future of the Championship up in the air'. All the usual stuff: Can the sport sustain more than 10 top flight teams? Not enough money to go round. Historic clubs fighting for survival and feeling abandoned. What is the player pathway if they fold? Foreign predators waving the big bucks to tempt our best talent.

It's about RU, of course. Perhaps a timely reminder that RL is not uniquely badly run.

It sounds like they wanted to abstain, but accidentally voted "no" and Salford wanted to vote "yes" but accidentally abstained.

and people wonder why the sport is in the pits when this is the calibre of decision makers we have determining its future.

The bizarre thing is Lady Ga Ga would probably sell out Old Trafford in her own right and probably us rugby fans wouldn't get a ticket to watch the main event ! I'm with you not for me.

To be fair James and Shed 7 were decent.

I am old enough to remember Rotherys and the listening booths in there!

Don't mind a bit of Ga Ga myself. I've genuinely no idea why either.

I can understand them abstaining. Given they aren't impacted by it as they don't have a team.

Worth keeping in mind that they still have an RFL "license". I assume they could sell this on as Hemel did.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

I’m sure the Keighley chairman is/was against the French clubs being in the SL. I mean what have Catalans ever offered the game apart from a record Super League attendance, whilst Toulouse pay for the travel expenses for the other clubs when they go over there. He could try and arrange a match in Barcelona when/if they ever reach the promised land and play wigan or Leeds there, and see if they can beat the 30,000 record attendance.

I honestly get so frustrated reaching some of the Yorkshire chairmen, and the Kiethley one is the worst. Todays rant has been about how the grading system doesn't mention how IMG are going to market the game, absconding all responsibility of the clubs to do any marketing themselves like they aren't the ones who directly benefit from bringing people through the door. Its the same as the central funding in that they contribute nothing yet expect to take the paycheque home at the end of the day.

We have accused teams of resting on their laurels, but I am starting to be concerned that theres actually something far more seriously wrong on the other side of the pennines. The sense of entitlement, like we should all be paying royalties to the flatcappers is astonishing.

I still have a bit of sympathy with Keighley for them getting shafted in the mid-90s. They blazed the razzmatazz trail, had attendances soaring and were riding high in the second tier. But they were left out of the SL, saw Bradford nick their pre-match spectacle, and poach half their fans. They never recovered.

I remember when we played them in the cup and "Cougar Mania" was at its peak.....a set of supporters who were so full of themselves for having achieved so little was unprecedented until W@nkey supporters got so giddy over ball all
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom." Danny Blanchflower.

I agree, retain TV funds for the top tier teams who earn the money. Its another incentive to get into the top tier. I am optimistic about this new system. Some teams will have to amalgamate if they want to get a top grading. If they don't want to they won't have to.

There's no guarantees in sport, look at Warrington - no matter how much money you throw at it, results are guaranteed. Similar in football, Newcastle, Everton and many more have had investment with no success.

You think these chairmen would look at it and would be happy that their pathway to Super League is clear.

I guess IMG and Super League ultimate dream would be 16 teams being As or at least good Bs, and increasing the league numbers

Let’s hope IMG have more teeth than what there has been in the past over enforcing standards. Hopefully now that the clubs have voted on it IMG will be able to enforce sanctions.

Yes, let's hope so. I can't see IMG being infiltrated by the Yaarkshire Mafia.

Had anyone seen any evidence of IMG doing anything for Rugby league yet?
Can't say I have seen anything in the way of marketing

Yes, they've made the Yorkshire clubs pull their fingers out their arses and actually get to work to improve their stadiums rather than show architecture plans every 2 years

Do you not have Channel 4? Everything Rugby League related on C4 is them.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.
