    Default Nrl 2023

Great start to this year's competition and managed to watch both the SKY games live...

Brisbane beating Penrith this morning and in Penrith. Double for Farnworth. Whilst Penrith looked better for having Edwards and Martin in the team and it is very early days of course, it's looking like they won't be as dominant as they've been in the last few years.

Storm beating Eels in golden point yesterday. Melbourne have lost a lot of their pack, but still will be there or thereabouts in terms of being one of the strongest sides. They just don't lose in round 1 either- there's a stat that they haven't last an opening game since 2003.

See Warriors beat the Knights earlier on today. @VinnyNZ, good start to the season for you.

Definitely looks like Penrith will miss Api, although I thought Soni Luke looked lively when he came on.

Yes, I thought he did well too. Seems in the same mould as Koroisau, though he's got his work cut out to replicate what Api did for them.

Kikau is the other big miss. It's his power and offload.

Think Brisbane could go well again this year and think they'll stay in the top 8 this year.

Woolf’s influence already clear at the Dolphins, bruising defensive performance today and a very impressive win

Holbrooks Titans also won away at West Tigers, good day for ex Saints coaches.

All 4 Queensland teams winning this weekend. It's been a great round of games with some incredibly close games.

Just watched the highlights and Bennett's post-match presser. Jeez that bloke is miserable and cantankerous considering they've just won their first NRL gig.

Not impossible that the Dolphins have a better season than Saints.

By "better" I would say Dolphins making the playoff semis and Saints not wining at Old Trafford.

Just watched the Dolphins Vs Roosters...

Surprising result and even more surprising how off the pace Roosters looked. Even Tedesco coming up with some poor errors- kicking out on the full and the knock on at the play the ball.

Thought the Dolphins looked good and all the playmakers did well. Their 9, Marshall-King was really effective for them running out of dummy half.

Some consolation for the Roosters is the news that Suaalii has re-signed. Interesting that his contract now runs to end of 2024. Same as Tedesco and Manu.

Seen the highlights of this one. Titans have got a lot of speed on the edges. Good news for them too, with Fifita staying.

Well unlike Warrington fans I know not to get ahead of myself. Do think the Warriors will have a better season than usual though.
My work tipping comp got off to a shocker though, Dolphins caught everyone out.

Big test for the Warriors going to the Roosters this week, Vinny. Particularly with Roosters coming off the defeat to Dolphins.
Think you'll get very good odds on Warriors winning this game.

See Penrith beat Souths earlier and were much better than in round 1. The scoreline flattered Souths, they only threaten the scoreboard late in the game.

Looking forward to watching Broncos vs Cowboys tomorrow.

Dolphins 2/2 after winning against Raiders this morning and Bulldogs beating Storm in Melbourne.

Farnworth very good for Brisbane again yesterday and Reece Walsh showing why Broncos have given him the full back spot. He's a very exciting player.

The doggies went well this morning! Melbourne didn't show up first half mind, got in to the swing of it a bit more in the second half but too little too late!

Just goes to show the idea that the NRL is an amazing standard is way off. A lot of the teams are in a right mess with squad balancing and cohesion. For them to win their first three games with a completely new team is remarkable, certainly wouldn't happen in Super League.

The NRL is not without it's problems for sure.

And as much as Dolphins' recruitment was questioned because they couldn't bring in one of the big name playmakers they chased, they still managed to sign three of Melbourne's key forwards. We don't see promoted sides to SL having that opportunity, do we?

A lot of the games that I've seen to start the season have been a good watch. Roosters vs Souths yesterday was a really intense battle. We've also seen some of the sides that struggled last year, beat some of the stronger sides- Titans beat Storm and Warriors beat the Cowboys this morning.

As an aside, John Bateman is due to make his debut for Wests tomorrow. They've lost both their games so far and I think Bulldogs will beat them in this one too.

Some cracking tries from the Broncos today, especially Kotoni Staggs' 2nd try - give it a watch if you get chance.

    Seen them Gaz- https://www.nrl.com/news/2023/03/18/...cos-v-dragons/

They've got a good side have Brisbane. Lots of quality young players coming through- Staggs is a genuine strike centre. Really like Walsh at full back and Ezra Mam at 5/8. Cobbo too.

'Battle of Brisbane' is on Sky on Friday- Brisbane vs Dolphins.

    Tomorrow is Eels vs Penrith.

Parramatta v Penrith on now, this could be a good game.

It had a great finish! Genius from Cleary to take to golden point but Parramatta taking the spoils in the end.

As did Broncos vs Dolphins this morning...Staggs going the length in the last few moments to seal the victory.

Interesting to see how Dolphins respond as picked up a serious injury to their halfback (O'Sullivan) and will be a test of their depth in the weeks ahead.

Wests losing again this morning to Storm. O-4.

I only watched the first half of Brisbane and Dolphins game but it was an awful quality game, looked like two bottom sides both trying to lose the game. Listened to the radio commentary for the second and it didn't sound like it got much better. Close games always bring exciting finishes which was the saving grace.

I agree. The closeness on the scoreboard kept the game interesting.

We are seeing lots of handling errors. Eels and Panthers yesterday had its fair share of errors and penalties too.

Do you have Cooper Cronk on the commentary for any games that are shown in the UK? I really hope you're lucky enough not to.

Michael Ennis on the other hand, is a great commentator/summarises and for me the best in Australia now.
