    Default Michael Smith

Huge congratulations to Michael Smith tonight in the PDC darts final. Despite being a Wire fan, I was really hoping he'd win. He seems like a thoroughly descent chap so putting local rivalries aside, I'm genuinely over the moon as he deserved to win the comp after being so close a few times.

Perhaps Warrington could ask him for some advice on how to finally get over the line, though somehow, I don't think he'd be so keen. When I say line, I don't mean below the relagation line.

Looking forward to the new season folks, see you then.

Get in there Bully Boy. Puts pressure on us to beat Penrith, then St. Helens will have World Champions at Rugby and Darts. Absolutely made up for him to finally win and with all his family there as well.

I think Jonesy is the Warrington fan.

Smith and his family are Saints season ticket holders. He even usually wears shirts incorporating a variation on the red vee.

    This after winning the final:

He's not the Messiah, he's a naughty boy.

Jonesy is referring to himself as being the Wire fan.

Haha there's a blast from the past. Had forgotten all about him. Did he even play a game for us? Think it was Millward that signed him from Cas wasn't it? From what I remember he turned up for pre season about 4 stone overweight and could barely run and was then never seen again

He was devastating in that year when we signed him. Used to give us the run around with his offloads! I was made up at the time we signed him

Didn’t he pack it in to go working as a bouncer somewhere in Yorkshire?

It's funny as there there can be sometimes a bit of bitterness between Wire and Saints fans, but sometimes the personality overrides this and Micheal Smith is a case in point. James Roby is another thoroughly descent chap who most Wire fans would, I'm sure, have an lot of time for unless he's playing us of course.

Ricky Hatton is another where many scousers I knew at the time followed him despite him being a proper Manc.

Percival is another. I bumped into him at a petrol station in Widnes and joked that I hoped he had a bad game as he/Saints were up against us next game and I mentioned that I was a Wire fan. He was incredibly polite, modest and good natured as we had a brief chat about SL.
