    Default Brian Hogan

Just read that Brian Hogan has passed away, a likeable jovial man, and real crowd favourite for whoever he played for, Oggy Oggy, Oggy!

Use to know him from school, was a year above me, was a really big lad and a hard case when he was only 15. Sad news when I heard this morning.

There’s a lot of Parr Central people on here. I’ve discussed him, on here, with Belgian Saint a few times. I went to Cuthies but he sometimes got on my bus, which must have been a 27 or 27A and we all knew who he was.

PS I’m glad I was too young to play against him. He was a handful.

I was in S1 same year as you, seem to remember Peg Leg doing some good coaching with the lads who were better at rugby. Also remember Les Jones at school but not sure what year he was in. I played full back and loose forward for Parr Cents but was only average later had a few games at Pilks Recs played centre and funny enough Les Jones turned up and was my winger for one game.

I watched the odd game when Brian Hogan played I recall him playing against some bigger lads think it was Edmund Camp. and he sorted them out.

Les Jones was in the same class as Brian and Myself. The only guy in school rugby I ever saw get the better of Brian was Joe Robinson at Rivi rd.

Hi Stiddy I have lost a very good friend this year too and he who would have been in the same class as you, his name was David Heyes he lived on the estate surrounding Parr Cent cant remember what is was called think it was Evelyn Avenue do yo remember him ? He joined the army straight from school and I met up with him about 20 years ago, we both live/lived in Ashton and only discovered we had been in the same class at parr cent M1 after boozing together for a year or so. One of my very good friends through school also would have been in your class Barry Dawson, small world is it not. You would not remember me I was crap at sport my only achievement was playing for the chess team run by Mr Fletcher

Certainly is a small world Dash, I remember the name David Heyes (did he have a twin brother) but can't facially visualise him. I was probably better at gymastics than rugby then, 10 years or so got some success in Athletics. Left St Helens around 1977 and lost touch with a lot of people from Parr Cents and St Helens College.

This thread has activated a few memory banks, one thing I remember is that Brian Hogan said to me we have a great propect in a scrum half in our year, think his name was Alan Parr or Brian Parr but he never came on the radar on the amateur rugby front and offter wondered what became of him.

Who was that evil PE teacher who had us running out of the gym onto the sports field in bare feet when it was hard, icy grass.

Hi Stiddy Dave did have a brother but not sure if he was a twin,It is along time since we left school and memory not as good theses days. The gym teacher I remember was Geoff Barron he used to have us hanging off the wall bars and first on off got the stick, never get away with that now. i was wary of Mr Fletcher until he was my form teacher for S2, I got on well with him because I played chess and was good at history. Still cant believe Parr Cent closed though they had a swimming pool built while we were there and then it closes, crazy. As for Brian he was a giant of a man if I remember if he ran at me on the rugby field I would have let him pass,RIP Brian

Geoff Baron?? Ended up in Jail. Don’t remember who the SH was, the one I was surprised didn’t make it was a winger named Alan Grimley he always seemed to have the legs on Les Jones.

The guy was an out and out bully and a paedophile, which is why he was jailed.

He got his baby sitter pregnant, when she was 14. Don’t know about him baby sitting.

This is probably not showing Brian the respect he deserves.
