Passed away at the age of 90, coach of the all conquering side of the mid sixties, despite never playing a game of rugby league in his life, being steeped in Union. A formidable man as any of his pupils would attest to. RIP

I’m sad to hear that. I transferred into West Park’s Sixth Form with some others at the age of 16. We had to play Union having only played League but nobody ever explained the rules!
He coached an absolutely brilliant team. One of the greatest Saints’ teams ever but the current lot aren’t bad either.
Sad to hear.
Heard a lot about how he had the Saints team really fit.
Walking into the lobby at the new West Park school and seeing the 4 trophies on display is a great memory, particularly with rival fans of Wigan, Widnes and Warrington in our year
I assumed he'd died donkeys years ago. I didn't realise he was only his mid-30s when coaching Saints.
THIS YEAR LENDING SUPPORT TO:- St. Helens RLFC, Manchester City, Celtic, Alemannia Aachen, Steps 1 to 6 Non-League Football
R I P Joe your coaching record at Saint swill never be beaten.
