Default 21 man squad v Salford

    https://www.saintsrlfc.com/2022/09/1...i-final-squad/

    1. Jack Welsby, 2. Tommy Makinson, 4. Mark Percival, 6. Jonny Lomax, 9. James Roby, 10. Matty Lees, 11. Sione Mata’utia, 12. Joe Batchelor, 13. Morgan Knowles, 14. Joey Lussick, 15. LMS, 16. Curtis Sironen, 17. Agnatius Paasi, 19. Jake Wingfield, 20. James Bell, 22. Ben Davies, 23. Konrad Hurrell, 26. Sam Royle, 27. Jon Bennison, 31. Taylor Pemberton.

    Assuming Percival is OK:

    Bennison
    Makinson
    Hurrell
    Matautia
    Percvial
    Welsby
    Lomax
    Paasi
    Roby
    Lees
    Batchelor
    Sironen
    Knowles

    Lussick
    Bell
    Wingfield
    LMS

Davies, Pemberton and Royle to miss out.

I really really hope he doesn't go with Bennison wing, Welsby 1 and Davies at 6.

I'd go with what you have put forward there mate.

Bennison was on the wing in the game we got trounced and it didn't make good viewing. He is a much better fullback.

Percy is clever when it comes to the game and reads it so well, so him on the wing would be great.

That's my thinking mate. They're not gonna come through the middle of us so will need to go to the edges. Having 4 experienced players at centre/wing and in particular Percival and Makinson who won't get sucked in out of position will be massive for us.

The only change I would make is Curtis at centre, Sione 2nd row.

I'd go with the team you've picked TYG. Got a feeling he'll play Davies at 6 though and dreading it if he does.

Anybody know what is wrong with Hopoate? Just says that he's not recovered in time on the website.

Hoping he goes with the team you’ve put down as well, but can definitely see him going Davies at 6 as well unfortunately

Perhaps making room for Hopoate after late fitness test, Wolf doesn't refer to him as definitely ruled out like Norman

Hamstring, hes not out of contention for the final if we pull off a miracle and make it there.

There was also a concern over bringing Percival, Matautia and Hopoate all back into the mix at the same time and risk losing 2 or 3 of the backline mid game.

They’ve confirmed today that he’s actually made of biscuits.

We’ve gone with Davies at six a fair bit this year, so I can see us favouring that.

Why? He’s never played centre before and a play off semi final isn’t the time to experiment.

Batchelor has played there before and Matautia has been capped for Australia at centre.

The worry for me is Woolf keeps going on about having guys in their correct positions. Which to me would suggest Percy centre and Sione 2nd row.

    1) Welsby
    2) Tommy
    3) Hurrell
    4) Percy
    5) Bennison
    6) Davies
    7) Lomax

I hope this isn't how our backs are going to line up. If it is, make 'the yellow giraffe' coach!

Davies as it currently stands is the squarest of pegs in the roundest of holes, that would be a last case scenario.

I hope he goes with your selection. I’d be surprised if that lineup didn’t beat Salford.

How often does he get the ball she he plays there. The opposition know that if Davies is 6 Lomax is first receiver virtually every PTB other than near our own line. Davies at 6 (not receiving the ball) means we don’t really have a 6 and Lomax is marked out of the game.

Yup! Having Davies in such a pivotal role within the team simply doesn't work. Yes he's steady, but we need more than steady, we need options. He isn't a ball-player and he isn't someone who is going to have the ability to see things like a Welsby or Dodd would. As harsh as it may sound right now, playing Davies at 6 would essentially mean playing with 12.

He won't, no way. The team TYG named will be the team IMO.

You don’t need to tell me that. Unfortunately, it’s a route we’ve taken a fair few times this year, so it wouldn’t surprise me if we went with it again on Saturday.

This is what I wrote down. The same at YG I think. I too would prefer Bennison at 1 rather than Davies at 6

    27. Jon Bennison,
    2. Tommy Makinson,
    23. Konrad Hurrell
    11. Sione Mata’utia,
    4. Mark Percival,
    1. Jack Welsby,
    6. Jonny Lomax,

    17. Agnatius Paasi,
    9. James Roby,
    10. Matty Lees,

    12. Joe Batchelor,
    16. Curtis Sironen,
    13. Morgan Knowles,

    14. Joey Lussick,
    15. LMS,
    19. Jake Wingfield,
    20. James Bell,

    22. Ben Davies,,
    26. Sam Royle,
    31. Taylor Pemberton.

If Hopoate is nearly fit we are best getting our one game out of him at OT. Assuming we make it.

I am getting increasingly nervous about this game.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

How are you making out we need a miracle to beat Salford at home in a semi final?? Yeah they are in form but we have won the league this season with a lot of adversity so beating Salford with a squad we have put down isn’t gonna take a miracle just a really good performance
