    Not a chance.

Would hate to see Marshall in a Saints kit on principle alone. I put him in the same bracket as Liam Farrell - unsporting player milking penalties whenever he can. Doesn’t fit our ethos.

If Thompson signs for Wigan he was only good because of Walmsley anyway

As much as I would like to think we have an offer in for French, if only to disrupt and distract them (as someone said, similar to King at Warrington last year) I highly doubt theres much in this. It does still leave us with the problem of who our winger is going to be next year (along with who our coach is going to be, and who our hooker is going to be ...) but I strongly suspect were waiting to see whose relegated ...

I haven't criticised Paul Wellens for being slow in about 15 years. I'd hate to have to start that again next year. How do we know he's ready for that? If he's really part of the planning, he should have been coaching in the Championship to get experience. Major, major risk if he's given the job, despite how much of a legend he is.

The path of taking a head coach position elsewhere isn't always the best one. Wellens is learning from some of the best coaches in the best system in the country, if there's any time that an assistant would be able to take over seamlessly it would be now. I don't see it as much of a risk as others.

Any more of a risk than an assistant from Australia?

Think that would be a bad move trying to coach in the championship would have been beneficial about 4 years ago but not now. He's been operating at a pretty high level with international coaches and successful coaches with good cultures in place. He would have too much to do if he came up from championship level, the opportunity of an easier transition is available to him hopefully.

You think working for 2 years at shitholes like Batley and Featherstone with part time players would be more beneficial than working with the club and players he will inherit, under someone of Woolf's ability? If so, why? Genuine question, not being a smartarse haha

KW and JH came from assistant coach positions. Our former assistant coach was head coach at Halifax, didn't do him much good did it ?

In what way is it a greater risk than getting an unknown Australian assistant coach? You can never know how well an appointment will work until after a few months. His pedigree is worth a crack unless Woolfe stays.

Why is it a bigger risk?

Would venture to suggest having accountability for performance and freedom to experiment / create your own gameplan may be a couple of reasons.

Blimey this thread took a turn since I last looked.

I just don’t see how Ritson fits in with Woolfs comments about having to be patient. I don’t know too much about the situation but I would have thought with Ritson it would be a case of just go out and get him - instead we’re waiting for a “fluid market”?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it as I’m not convinced Ritson is the answer but it just doesn’t seem to fit…

Hope we’re aiming higher than Ritson, feels like a Cunningham era signing

Batchelor was 23 when we signed him and was given time to develop, not parachuted straight into a starting position at what will be 28 by next year
