    Default Percival worry

I'm beginning to get worried about this blokes injuries. We are told he's had "niggles" for a few weeks now it turns out these niggles are worse than initially thought so he's definitely missing the Leeds game and isn't even sure to be fit for Cats game. He's not been right for 2 years with hamstring and shoulder problems. Maybe taking the ball up 8 or 10 times a game has finally caught up with him.

I think we're just a bit more coy with regards to injuries, we can afford to give him a few more weeks rest at the moment given our four point gap at the top of the league

Woolf said there was an outside chance he could be available for the Catalan game but not if there is a risk.

This will be a month since he played...that's not a niggle. Something not right there

He's out for 6 weeks (injured against Wire). Hopefully be back next week but Saints won't take a risk unless he is 100% fit. Similar to when Grace, Sione and Hopoate were recovering from their recent injuries.

The way he plays I'm afraid. Complete disregard for his own body. It's frustrating seeing him injured so much but he's brave as they come. He carts in it as hard as anyone on our exit sets

And throws himself about in defence as well. It's just all caught up to him.

Yep. Dead right. Frustrating but amongst it all, easy to forget how tough this sport is.

I was watching the Good As It Gets documentary on Amazon & Peacock was saying how sore he was right up until next game. I know he was a prop and older but Percival careers it into the line at least once a set in his own 20.

Forwards can be blowing and him and Makinson never shirk a carry. Never

I just think Woolf is being sensible. There is no point playing players that aren't 100% and risk them actually getting injured for the end of the year. It is a good opportunity to see Davies play in his normal position as well.

I think as fans we need to keep in mind that we need players fit in September before getting the pitchforks out and labelling a player as unreliable. I suspect if it had been a cup or playoff game Percival would have played
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

Absolutely right to do so,....but by definition and just by saying he has a niggle, people will put 2+2 together and get 5 if that "niggle" takes 6 to 8 weeks to fix.

Impact injuries are part and parcel of this game, it is the soft tissue strains that seem to add up. Some players accumulate injuries early in their career then grow into their bodies Percy seemed to be in this category, Nick Fozzard was seen as injury prone but when he came to us he seemed to leave that behind and when injuries struck in the teams props department played 80 mins two weeks on the trot.
Percy tried that big shot on Ben Murdoch and came off second best, then his hamstring that required surgery after a couple of comebacks were he broke down again, he seems to have never quite recovered from this. I stated in a previous topic lots of different body types in our squad have suffered hamstring trouble this year, there is no doubt we have done something different in pre-season to stay ahead of the posse and it has bitten us, I also have no doubt we have addressed this in the backroom.
On the Jon Wilkin interview with James Roby, Robes states he thought he was finished after groin surgery in the off season did not work, it took our physio to recommend him to another surgeon who diagnosed a different problem. A top quality international athlete yet the first surgeon operates and what is usually a success does not fix it, another surgeon has to solve it correctly. Scully another top quality international athlete took an off season out to have a micro-fracture then spent most of the remaining season when he came back in and out of rehab with the surgeon telling him it will settle, eventually he went to a different surgeon who diagnosed the real problem, solved it and back he came for that cameo in the WCC, by this time two major surgeries and two seasons out of the game.
I think Percy should go to the fella who did Field`s hamstring, he seems to have comeback well.

Mike Critchley has just put an article out where Woolf has said he'll be another 3-4 weeks maximum. All very bizarre with how the timeline has been discussed so far but that's come from a specialist so hopefully he will be fully recovered then.

Glad we now have some form of return date, no need to rush him with quite a few bit of the season to go and we have the squad to cover. Hurrell and Davies cover centres have done really well overall, the latter getting game time is just as important for his development.

Our last 4 regular games 3 of them are at home and the return schedule fits in with them so he's not going to be pushed into a high pressure block of games like we are doing at the moment.

“If we were playing finals in three weeks’ time it would have been impossible to keep Mark off the field.

“He feels good and feels like he can play now and that is frustrating for him, but we need to make sure we show due diligence and take the precautions to make sure that when he comes back there is no risk of re-injury.

“We have been a bit cautious with a number of players this year but think it is a smart move.

“These very good players are going to come back into the team later in the year and come back fresh and with a real spring in their step and a mentality of finishing the year strong.

“That is something we are looking forward to,” Woolf said.

Woolf appears to be managing the squad really well - here's hoping it all comes together for the play-offs.

That is a very reassuring read! It makes sense with the squad depth we have to be cautious

Once Percy comes back, it will be 3 months since he last played, must have been a fairly serious injury!

My point is they're really unpredictable, I'm sure our lads have top class medical care and advice and I can imagine it's enormously frustrating for MP.

As another example, I played golf last Thursday afternoon, got up Friday morning for work and felt a tweak that I can still feel right now.
Aye, I sympathise buddy, I have torn both left and right in the last years playing rugby, horrific pain and I still strap them both now for more psychological benefit I think.

Just hope he comes back raring and on both cylinders which I am sure he will - he only knows 1 way does Percy.

I was actually going to do a post like this, some good quotes from Woolf. It shows that he understands that we need to get to the end of the year without burning out the team.

It is is a great way to get younger players in the field without just dropping first teamers. Our squad is starting to feel quite deep again as a result. You feel like we can handle a few injures as the next few players in the squad are more than capable.

I see Royle has also gone out on loan. That shows that we are pretty confident with the depth of our pack at the moment.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

I was right from day 1...Originally described as" a niggle". Niggle my arse!! There has been no official description of this injury so we're guessing as to whether it's hammy, shoulder or something new. Maybe we don't have to be told but we're not stupid...don't understand the cloak and dagger stuff. ".

I don't think they intend it to be "cloak and dagger" stuff, players in recovery have unpredictable setbacks and the club seemed to have stopped giving out return to play dates. Similar thing happened with Grace and Hopoate but the latest on Percival did sound postive to be ready for the business end of season.

With so many injuries and bans this season we have rotated the squad very well and the coaching team need to be applauded for that keeping us at a high performance level.

I don’t think it’s cloak and dagger - not sure how much more detail you want than what he gave.
