I just don’t see the point of moving the best 13 in the league to play a position he’s only played for about 50 minutes in a glorified friendly.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Delighted for James Bell that he has managed to sign for a club like Saints. Didn't work out for him at NZ Warriors, but starred for Toulouse in the championship before signing for us. Played nearly every game at loose forward for us, apart from a couple at stand off. Not sure how many games he'll start for you, but not a bad player to have on the bench or if you have injuries.

I suppose it’s about availability. Knowles could still be one of the best props in the country, have a massive impact on the team, and isn’t a huge departure on the role he plays in the team now. I guess it boils down to is having Bell at 13 better or worse than Amor or LMS at prop. Given we have given Bell a two year deal, you have to assume the answer is yes?

Morgan Knowles will stay at loose forward. Bell will be a squad player and nothing more.

Knowles strength is his defense in the middle, not running in crash balls.

I agree, Bell has to fight for his spot, he says as much in his interview. Good signing is Bell, a very dangerous hardworking player.

At least Bell seems genuinely excited to be coming here.

All this recruitment addded to the strong development of our home grown talent is looking excellent as we transition towards the future. It really is good work from the club.

I agree. Are we just waiting now to see whether we sign Hurrell as well, or are there more announcements to come?

He doesn't deserve that on current form and if he gets better and fitter over the pre-season.
I think this coach seems to pick players on form and ignores reputation. Batchelor for me if he plays like he has is nailed on in the first 13. Bell to be could prove to be a better signing than a couple of the high profile players, probably not too costly.

He probably isn't nailed on to start. Not signing Sironen to warm the bench. It will probably be Mata'utia and Sironen in the 2nd row, with a bench of Paasi,Lussick,Lms and one other out of Batchelor,Bell or whoever else might be in contention.

Woolfe has been a brilliant coach bringing the youngsters through. So Im Not worried about anyone losing out because someone else has signed.

Maybe people are starting to appreciate KW now?

In a team, full of hard working stars, he fitted right in. RL is a team game and whilst SKY may heap praise on players like Jake Connor and Jai Field, it's as a team that you win the comp, as we are proving time and time again.

Sounds to me like he’ll be our 4th interchange along with one of Roby/Lussick and 2 props. Probably start with Mata’utia, Sironen and Knowles 11-13 with Bell to cover those positions. With Mata’utia able to cover at centre, Knowles cover prop and Sironen cover in the halves it gives us real flexibility in case of injury during a game. Where that leaves Batchelor and Wingfield I don’t know but it certainly gives us depth. Also not sure where it would leave Hurrell if we did sign him.
How can you even think of leaving Bachelor out.

How many times did Sky mention Connor during our game. You would think he is the second coming of Sam Tompkins the way they go on about him.

Welsby, Field, Lolehea, Coote, Tomkins all comfortably ahead of Connor. Evalds and Ratchford in the same bracket I would say, but that makes Connor, statistically at least, mediocre at best.

Anyway thought Bell played really well today. Thought he was trying too hard in the first 15 minutes, looking for a big shots and shooting the line. Once he settled down he was excellent and really looked the part.

With Sironen back, Mata’utia shouldn’t be too far away, Batchelor and Knowles in good form, and Wingfield highly rated, there’s some serious competition for the backrow places coming

Bit of a sidetrack, but if Batchelor can continue to get regular game time with that competition and continue to improve as he has, he could be in with a shout of an England place in the near future. Not too many English back rowers playing great at the moment. Obviously Knowles and Bateman ahead, but how many others?
