Its a strange one and not something that would have been top of my list.
Provided we haven't spent a massive amount of money on him I can see where he would come in useful.
He can cover at center which means that if we go with Hopoate and Percival as first choice and Welsby at full back, it means that he can cover injury to either of those two, it also means if we get an injury at half back then Welsby can cover that, Hopoate drops back to full back and Hurrell covers center.
As discussed it is likely he will be used as an edge second row, where his familiarity with playing center will give him something extra and teh opposition far more to think about than running with Batchelor or Matautia (I actually quite like the idea of this having a center turn second row rather than a second row turn center)
The only problem would be if we bring in more second rows or a half back to cover any injuries (Brown from Featherstone) eh will be restricted in his game time and be an expensive asset sat waiting for an injury. On the other hand he may be there to make sure both our centers play to their potential every week to keep their place - and that's not a bad pressure to be exerting on them.
I cant make my mind up if its a good thoughtful signing or one that will fall flat on its face
This remains an odd one to me, but I've been thinking today about how many times we've been able to cover injuries using Welsby and Naiqama's versatility this year. Now that Welsby is supposedly going to be settled at full back next year and Naiqama is leaving, we're losing that flexibility in the back line, so a second row who can play centre is not a bad thing to have on paper.
Ultimately it's an experiment and one that carries a risk of failure. I'm fine with that so long as he isn't getting paid a big salary.
I think Bell would be an absolute waste of a signing if we sign Hurrell or not. Even if we don't, I'm not sure what Bell brings what we don't already have in Knowles and to a lesser extent the potential of Wingfield. As I've said previously on Hurrell I can see the different dimension that we may add with Hurrell, I don't see it with Bell.
If he can get fit, lose 3 stone, stop shooting out of the line and stop dropping the ball he'll be a decent signing.
If we have signed him, you can asume that he will be given a training regime ready for pre season like our other players. It's no coincidence that we were the fittest team when the league resumed. Our conditioning staff are the best in the business and it is reflected in the team competing for the full 80 minutes and being able to withstand numerous sets on our line & come out on top.
If true, we must think that a line breaking second row/centre is what we are short of. The point made earlier about the number of times Welsby has filled in at centre this season is a valid point, if he's FB next season, he can't do that
Time will tell if it's an inspired signing I guess. IF it happens.
Please no, not the saints, written off? I dont think

I wish he had played for Leeds last night instead of Newman.

I'm still cold on this signing
People saying if we get him fit and motivated he'll be a great signing. That's two very big 'ifs'.
I'll be more than happy if I'm proved wrong, but this signing is a massive gamble.
We must keep Birchalls pie shop a secret from him, if he discovers that the we are doomed
