    Default Manfredi to retire

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/57631799

Sad way for it to end for him. If it wasn't for injuries he'd be one of the top wingers in the world.

    Best of luck to him.

Sad news. Never good to see this for any player but at 27 it's his prime.

Best of luck for the future.

I remember an unhappy derby a few years back where we couldn’t lay a finger on him. Shame to see a very promising career undone.

Not one of the Wiganers I loathe and a good player. Sad way to end.

I would hope that Wigan will make sure that he gets all the help medical wise that he could possibly need

Think Wigan have confirmed more bad news for them with Bevan French being ruled out for the rest of the season. He's been their biggest strike weapon. He has re-signed with them for 2022 though.

No his deal as far as I know was only for this season. I don’t think any NRL clubs came calling last season when he was debating a new deal.

Be interesting to see if this injury has any impact on his decision for next season and beyond.

I think the NRL clubs will probably see how he gets on after his injury before they offer a deal, so reckon he'll be at Wigan another season

No it’s official he’s exercised his option for a year extension and will be a Wigan player in 2022.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Really gutted for Manfredi. He had three knee re-constructions plus two major knee operations when he was at academy level.

He's a really tough player. Sean O'Loughlin was once asked "Who would you not like to go toe to toe with in a fight" His reply was "The Pig" Everyone looked quizzically as they thought he meant Piggy Riddell. He then explained that "The Pig" was players nickname for Manfredi. O'Loughlin said that Manfredi was never beaten by anyone in wresting pit.

I just hope we can get him back on the pitch for at least one last game, he deserves that.

Wish him all the best for his future, always a handfull and a dangerous player much better temperament than Charnley and others. Must be very tough for him to keep getting knock down with injury time and time again.

Yeah French is definitely using Wigan there. He wanted to return home then got seriously injured so no NRL interest, takes his option on Wigan’s salary cap for an extra year. He’s not daft.

And whilst he's at home doing rehab he will no doubt he having a few chats to see if there's anything out there for him. French and Hastings both used Wigan brilliantly last couple of years. Paid holiday for them both, won nowt, get NRL deals and go home. Belting.

Manfredi was one of your lot that I never disliked, and always respected as a player. I have even more respect reading what he went through as a junior.

A decent honest exceptional winger is this lad , always played an honest game , not your normal goon type , wish him well for the future.

Well I guess French will be back bright eyed, bushy tailed and better than ever, next year
    or
Will never get back on the plane, like so many NRL exports

    Real shame about Manfredi

I heard similar on one of the clubs Q&A posted on youtube where Bateman and Gelling said if you tapped off Manfredi he put your arm in a lock.
He has also sparred with our own Martin Murray who said Dom was very capable and could look after himself, not bad a winger who gets in the ring with a world class boxer.
Good luck with your future Dom.

Not wishing to create a thread about Wigan so it’s going in here.

I see Willie Isa, Hastings and Gildart have poked at the Wigan ‘support’ for booing. Quite a few negative ‘fan’ comments on Twitter back at them.
