I realise that your post is sarcastic, but the team he played in was virtually the academy team, so no experience around at all.

I take your point but suspect Graham, Walmsley, Paulo, Peyroux, Ashworth, Batchelor, Costello, Smith and Eaves would argue that they were well past being considered Academy players.

Agreed, I apologise, I had forgotten that AW & JG had played in that game. Maybe I should do some research before posting & not rely on my fading memory

My bad. He's played one game. My point still stands, he needs considerable game time at 7 this season if we're considering handing him the shirt next season. If Fages departs as expected and Welsby adopts either the 1 or 3 shirt, we'll have no backup for him either.

Nearly spat my tea out earlier when I was reading a well known rugby forum and I was having a look at the James Bentley signing thread and someone commented that Bentley was very much in the mold of Carl Ablett.

    Chuffin' heck, high praise indeed.

Apparently there were 4 super league clubs after Bentley as well as St George.

Saint's acted impeccably according to form but couldn't get it over the line sadly.

I read it when it came out. A similar piece on the King signing also.

Craig Harrison is good mates with Matt Shaw.

They are interesting reads a give some insight but are
always going to say nice things about everyone.

It is no doubt accurate and factual but written up so everyone looks good.

RL is a small game and agents ,clubs and journos all have to
work together next week on the next deal.

Speaking of Leeds, if anyone wants a good laugh have a look at the Rugby League Banter Page on Facebook for the video of Hurrell getting dropped by Mossop. One punch KO!
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

One of the outcomes of recent clampdowns means players run in safe in the knowledge they won't get punched.

    Not today.

Gale only got a yellow for punching a little later.

Got to say in fairness to Mossop, if someone that big ran at me I'd make sure I got the first one in. Hope he pleads self defence, what was he supposed to do let Hurrell run up and deck him?

Mossop was definitely going to be on the receiving end of a couple of punches. Mossop actually backed away a metre or two and the only option for him was to fire one in first, good punch technique that.

I've heard various rumours that Mossop is pretty handy. Seems to have demonstrated it with aplomb today

This strikes me as the perfect opportunity for the RFL to quash the players running in business. Run in and rightly get snotted. Throw punches unprovoked in any other circumstances get a ban, simple. Although I don’t mind a few punches flying it’s all part of the game.
I’ll watch this space but I’d fully imagine Mossop to cop a 3 game ban for what is effectively as already stated self defence

I was always taught to respect my elders,
but it keeps getting harder to find one!

Hurrell has always been a bit of a bully and it has backfired a few times.

He tried it on Tariq Sims while playing for Gold Coast and came off worse then too

As has been mentioned above, if a big guy comes charging at you like that you want to get the first punch in. We don’t know what Hurrell was actually going to do but I felt self defence was excusable there. Given he was sent off after 15 minutes I’d have gone with sending off sufficient rather than a 2 game ban.

I did think it was class how he went over and shook Mossop's hand as they both walked off.
