So leave the hugely successful ST Helen’s team where you are head coach and at the top of the tree, and head back to Australia to a newly formed franchise, where you will be an assistant coach.

Do your year as an assistant, and Bennet decides NOT to retire, where does that leave Woolfe?

And realistically, can he learn from Bennett? Woolfe strikes me as a bloody singleminded fella who has his way or the highway. Bennett is a prickly character and it might not work.

Regardless, he has had more success than Holbrook in his 3 year tenure and IMHO Woolfe has done enough to walk straight into a head coach role, just as Justin did…..
It's not necessarily a purely career driven decision. Woolf would have been happy to stay here if there weren't other factors at play.

He's also turned down the NZ Warriors job so I don't think he would just take a role without there being some merit

I will be very surprised if he stays. I’m guessing Wellens will take over at the end of this season

Just dissapointed by his post match comments, must be frustrated now unable to pick from a decent stronger squad.

Looks as though here in the UK its turning full circle for him, started his coaching career here with a busted squad and finishing his coaching career here with a busted squad.

I don't think his teams have been the most attacking or entertaining to watch teams. Saying that the defence has been great and 3 (hopefully 4 grand finals) on the trot has been a great achievement.

Can't blame him if NRL options come up which they inevitably will. If he goes thanks and good luck. Lets just hope that he can act as our eyes and ears down there and tip us off to a conveyor belt of good Tongans.

Why? My reckoning was he was seething and kept a lid on it. We’ll be all reet after this.

I think he's more likely to try to take some of ours with him

Why? We said this with Holbrook as well (and Brown) but it never happens like that

You're normally on the money - do you expect it to be Wellens or an external appointment?

If this is the case then I think it's a great call.

It also shows a lot of guts by the board as they could have easily shied away from this decision after KC and no one would have given it a second thought.
