Dodd over Smith for me but the other 16 pretty much picks itself. I’d keep Mata’utia on the left with Percival and Grace, lethal combination last week. Thompson on the right to add an extra layer of protection to Welsby and Naiqama.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Pretty much how I see it, 1-9 picks itself. Back row picks itself. You're basically picking who starts at prop from LMS, Paasi or Amor, the other two on the bench, Batchelor on the bench, then either Dodd or Smith

Smith for the 4th spot on the bench for me.

Yep, pointless having Dodd on the bench to come on and play 9. Bring him on to try at 7 at some point or put him back in the closet.

Not really as it gives him exposure to Super League rugby plus the occasional opportunity to showcase his skills, such as in the lead up to Grace’s try following Paasi’s surge upfield.

I agree. Many players have been introduced to first team rugby out of position. The more exposure he gets to first team rugby the better IMO

You would think so. I would say Smith as he is getting a run at the moment. Dodd will pop back up in a few weeks.

The news sounds positive about Knowles but if he is not ready then Batchelor to start with Norman on the bench. Our pack is looking thin at present.

I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.

If there's increasing doubt about Fages being here next season, then we need to begin giving Dodd more gametime to see if he's up to the standard required. We've got a run of much tougher games coming up, so play Dodd at 7 against Salford.

Worst case scenario is we continue to use Fages at our 7 throughout the season, with Dodd getting only late minutes at 9, or covering the very occasional game through injury.

Almost as bad is if we bring in another 7 at the end of the season to replace Fages, then Dodd leaves out of sheer frustration without ever getting a chance to prove himself here (and then goes on to be a top player for another club)

I agree Dodd should be playing 7 now if we know Fages is on the way out. My only worry is Dodd playing under Woolfs structured rugby. We can be so predictable. One thing Fages does have in his favour is he’s well suited to Woolfs style, meaning he can get smacked around the head and walk it off, as tough as he is. If Dodd plays i hope he strays from the structure on occasion.

I’d continue with Fages but give Dodd longer off the bench at hooker, especially given how Roby has started the year.

How will that tell us if he's capable of taking over from Fages?

If Fages signs for Huddersfield as I expect and we are going with Dodd next season then this should influence selection moving forwards.

I am not advocating leaving him out completely but I would rotate him at least so we can see what Dodd is about.

Agreed. We would be in a far better place if Dodd gets 5 or 10 matches this year at scrum half rather than throwing him in next year when he's barely played first grade.

It’ll get him more minutes on the pitch, which spells Roby who has been poor, allows us to blood Dodd, allows a bit of pace out of dummy half and keeps Fages in the side, whose started quite well this year.

At this stage of the season, I wouldn’t go rocking the boat too much in terms of team selection and would give Dodd time onfield at 9 and possibly 7 when games are won.

How far do you take the logic of if someone isn't going to be here next season then play someone who will be ?

That was a terrible first half. We keep hoping that eventually we will “click” but I just can’t see it happening this season.

If Salford don’t win this game they are even worse than I thought they were

Give it a few minutes, some will be on here quoting the wire score against a Huddersfield team we beat, so we’re not all that bad!!

I saw the half time score and feared another mind numbing performance.

But we have had 2 tries chalked off?

We attempted to score twice and failed. Nothing more to it really.

Hopefully a bit more clinical 2nd half to get them tries.
