Default Late hits on the kicker

Theo Fages took some punishment last night from being taken out that second or two after kicking in open play.

The piescum were similar on the Leigh kickers several times

After that yard-dog Costin took Long out and did his ACL, the RFL (never ones to be proactive) clamped down on late hits on the kicker, but it seems to have crept back in with refs letting it go.

How long before another serious injury? And no doubt the RFL/SL would then announce a crackdown.

They're probably waiting until Fages, Lomax and Dodd are ••••ed first.

Refs only seem to penalise these days if you attack the legs of the kicker or if you’re really late. Other than that they seem to let most challenge’s go unpunished.

After the stuff they let go in the Catalans game last season, I think that kickers seem to be fair game now, not good.

The only one i can remember in recent history is the one on Coote in the Grand Final, and that was more for a shoulder charge than a late hit, im all for pressuring the kicker and fair hits, but some hits are certainly pushing the boundaries of legality, especially when the kicker is defenceless.

Kickers, and half backs when they've passed the ball, have been fair game for late hits for a while now. It's no wonder they don't take on the line when they know they'll get clattered after passing. These are usually the smallest and most skilful players on the team and yet we allow them to be smashed late by cowards twice their size.

Fages takes loads of stick and I cringe every time Lomax takes on the line knowing the devastating injuries he's had in his career.

It's no wonder there's a dearth of skilful halfbacks around now when the authorities allow them to be smashed constantly. We talk about player welfare but that's all it is...talk. It's as though they are actively trying to discourage skilful play and turn all the playmakers into one-dimensional robots.

Another of the many current blights of the game I'm afraid.
