Another try assist from Fages’ boot tonight. We’ve not missed Coote’s kicking in play so far.

Hope this isn’t going to be the overall standard of refereeing this year.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.
Three tries off kicks and one from a Dodgy wrip from Percival. No obvious signs that our attack is any better. Obviously still early days and we are winning relatively comfortably.

I think it was a decent hit out. The forwards won a tough and very physical battle and we defended with energy. There was a period in the first half where we seemed starved of possession so hard to play razzle dazzle in those circumstances. It just felt Saints were always in control by virtue of their speed in attack and attitude and shape in defence. Im still nit convinced on Fages (especially as he gets quality ball offf Roby which should not be overlooked) but the new signings looked good and it was the type of hit out needed. Ill rewatch again tomorrow.
Positive that we still look fairly fresh whilst Salford look absolutely cooked.

Decent enough win without Coote and Knowles. Going to need to be a lot better near the opposition line though, hopefully that’ll come with time and getting those two back.
That was a good win. We were a little clunky in attack (probably a combination of week 1 and no Coote) but physically really tough and well organised in defence.
Of the new guys I really liked the look of Thompson. I thought Matautia struggled in his first stint but looked more comfortable in his second. Paasi looks like he’ll be a good addition - hopefully he’s alright.
Matty Lees looked great, I thought. Him and Bentley both look bigger.
Great to have Percy back.
Apparently he went down the tunnel looking absolutely gutted
No complaints from me overall. We obviously look stronger in the pack and look like we’ll be able to look after ourselves, and I think we tried to play when the situation opened up, especially Lomax who worked hard trying to create openings. It’s a week 1 game against a side we should beat, in an empty ground, tired bodies, etc, etc, and we did what we needed to do and despite some of the comments in game on here I was never remotely concerned about the result. Loads of positives for me.
As for Fages, he’s a lightning rod for debate as per usual. I take it as positive and a negative really. He’s quite clearly not a top 7 and I think he stifles us with his poor decision making, but it’s an argument we’ve had many times. On the positive side, when the argument goes back to Fages it kind of shows that most of the other parts of the team are doing okay and Fages is the main issue of negativity. I’d rather be a good side with an iffy 7 who we can moan about than an average side with a top 7 who is wasting his time.
Job done, 2 points, we’ll get better and I’m looking forward to seeing our pack up against the top sides later in the year already.
