Second Row and sometimes Prop I think. I'm sure it was him that broke Kelvin Skerret's jaw in that Charity Shield game in Gateshead.

Surely in the spirit of things today, all players and people are equal meaning I'm up there with Sean Long even though I have a left foot like a jacket potato.

Very harsh on Meli. Surely there have been worse than him. Yes he had mistakes in him but I remember him being a great finisher on his day whereas with most of the other suggestions had no redeeming features ( Owens, Perry, Lee etc).

I’m assuming 8. Ward is Barry not Kevin, I’ll see your Morgan and raise you “Bony” Tony Kay.

Barry Ward was actually a bloody decent player.

He might have looked like Eddie Large's secret lovechild, but he could shift them stubby legs. Had good hands and worked hard.

There's far worse than him that gave propped for us.

Michael Smith was a joke. Not sure if he played a competitive game, so it may not count. Signed him from Cas, where he'd looked a decent impact player. Turned up here in a state that'd make Barry Ward seem like Pete Shiels. I know he played in a couple of pre-season games and was blowing out of his arsehole just jogging onto the field. We f***ed him off soon after.

And one of the centre spots must go to Damien Smith/Spliff

Think "way more rubbish than Ryan Morgan" and then make him even rubbisher.

I'd be happy with Michael O'Connor in the team, too. Top-rated Aussie centre/Winger and regular in the Kangaroos. People expected the same impact as Meninga had. O'Connor couldn't be arsed - and it showed.

Other prop for me would be Josh Perry.

Got an injury between signing for us and arriving here, but never even looked like trying to get back up to speed. Played a handful of games craply, then divided his time for the rest of his contract between the treatment table and being a tourist.

See, I find it difficult to pile into players who might not have the talent or skill, but give their all for my team and bust a gut.

Then there's players who clearly don't want to sweat water, never mind blood, for the club. They're the ones who should be making this thread.

    1. C Griffiths cost us a fortune for little return
    2. J Owens. Would have been OK in the winter era, not short of skill, just pedestrian.
    3. M Dawson. Just poor.
    4. B Parkes. One of the component parts of our demise.
    5. M Carrington see 1. Just not as expensive an import but more than no
    6. W Francis. Didn't do it for me, high profile, poor fit for Saints.
    7. J Smith. Eric Ashton's son in law.
    8. R Owen. Expensive really hard man but not an RL player
    9. Lee. Awful.
    10.j Perry. Enough said
    11.J Paulo as above
    12. G Bottell part of a decline
    13. S Haworth

By the way I wish I was half as good as any of them but it's a thread to debate and it's opinion. We will have had worse fleeting appearance players. I remember a couple of Aussies who we signed cousins and not the specific player and of course Tricky Trindall.

I was just going to suggest these two Muppets. Also there was an Aussie where we signed the wrong brother, Adamson?

As a terrible indictment of SL i think this team would have a chance at the play-offs this year.

Smith retired to work as a nightclub bouncer, said it paid more. Probably a lot less effort involved as well. The only good thing about him is I think we got him for free??

There are a few players on here who were mediocre to middling; in other words far from bad players. Then there are those who were out of their depth, some of these players lasted a game or so but some managed a sustained run before being jettisoned and they are the players I've mainly focused on. As someone has already said, I'd reserve my criticism though for the players who had ability and wasted it / did'nt care. Michael O Connor a prime example. Its hard to ridicule a player if he is determined to succeed and put the effort in but was just short of ability in a team that is by rule of thumb challenging every year. Nonetheless with heavy heart here goes:

    1. Michael O Connor
    2. Jack Owens
    3. Damien Smith
    4. Andy Haigh
    5. Dave Large
    6. Tommy Frodsham
    7. Darrell Trindall
    8. Pat Jarvis
    9. Tommy Lee
    10. Andy Dannatt
    11. Phil Adamson
    12. Bryan Henare
    13. Heath Cruickshank

O'Connor definitely needs to be there. Can't argue with any of your other picks apart from Pat Jarvis who I've never heard. The worst forward I can think of is some Kiwi bloke, he was massive but basically a cripple, I can still see him now, he lived on Kiln Lane in the same house Jarrod Mc Cracken had. I gave his son a good hiding after he hit my brother.

    Ricky Cowan?

PJ was a good ARL player but hated it here and jibbed it off pretty soon. I was only a kid but a disappointment given his pedigree.

That's the one, I was thinking Ricky something and convinced myself it was Ricky Bibey, who to be fair could also be considered.
