So. From any team, from any country.
Everyone has to pick their one favourite player.
I will start.

Paul Wellens.
Dick Huddart, he was my idol when I was a 7 year old.
James Roby.
If he’s 8/10 it’s a poor game for him. I’ve rarely seen an 8/10 performance and I don’t honestly think I’ve seen him lower than that.
Can't stop the spirits when they need you.
This life is more than just a read through.
Paul Wellens. The most passionate, committed player ive ever seen since i started watching in the mid 90’s. When Darren Lockyer was asked who he thought was the best player in Super League he said Paul Wellens.
He drove the ball when our forwards got tired, caught every high ball, bundled bigger men over the touchline inches from scoring, created tries and scored plenty despite not being the fastest fullback around.
I remember us losing at Odsal in 2006. Vainikola was metres from the tryline. He would have steamrolled any other fullback. Wellens picked him up and dumped him in touch. I was gutted when he retired.
screaming in the family corner, scaring the kiddies
Vollenhoven..........the most modest of men, .......when he was at his peak and got the ball, the anticiptaion of the crowd as they collectively held their breath and then he never failed to deliver, would have considered Murphy , fabulous player again when he he was in his pomp, but a bit of a "big ead" and held the club to ransom a couple of times
Seen too many Great players in the red vee to pick one but someone who the "never takes a backward step" cliche was made for and the horrible end to his career along with the respect he got from some of the Aussie Greats I can only opt for Kevin Ward. Mike McClennan called him the Colossus and he was right, came to Saints too late in his career.
On the Back foot looking for the front one.
Can't choose between George Nicholls and John Walsh. But do childhood heroes never leave us I guess. Maybe Jamie Lyon was just a world beating freak that we had for two years. World class and in his prime.
Jamie Lyon. The two years with us were spell binding and then he went to Manly and turned it on for them.
Plus, I met him a few times out round town and he was a genuine, quiet, nice bloke
I agree with green grass. Kevin Ward gets my vote. What a player. Sad way to end his career
Tommy Voll - peerless winger. So glad I have those memories, particularly wembley '61.
Wello. Other St Helens lads probably became more famous in the game, and another has a statue (deservedly) but he was always the local lad I most identified with. Whenever we were up against it Wello was the one rallying the side, and whenever we won a big game at KR Wello was always the first lad to salute the Scaff and lead the team over. Several players in the 96-06 decade of dominance had more ability than him but I doubt any had a bigger passion for the club.
Roy Haggerty
The King Kieron Cunningham (player not coach)
Vollenhoven. He was my hero as a kid.I met him later on in life, a real gentleman.
The Saints players I have loved watching the most;
Paul Newlove
Jamie Lyon
Kevin Ward
Scott Gibbs
Impossible really but I’ll go mal meninga. Just a pity he didn’t make his second stint that was planned.
Loads of candidates but maybe James Graham for me. World class in his prime and would not accept Saints losing. Like having our biggest fan in a shirt
Jamie Lyon - my word what talent.
Paul Newlove - again, world class. Huge man who could run like the wind. He would run on that arc and everyone would hold their breath.
Barba - let himself down in the end but maybe the most devastating runner with the ball I've ever seen for Saints. Scored tries that left people shaking their heads. The one up the touchline at Cas where he beat a man with literally a yard to work in, and went 80 yards
Roby and Keiron, two once in a lifetime hookers back to back
Long and Martyn - amazingly talented rugby players
I would not be able to pick pne from all the magic players that i have watched so i wont try tp.
