Default Players who have played for Saints and W

Inspired by the Saints and Wigan combined team thread, I wondered if I could come up with a team of players who played for both clubs.

    Gary Connolly

    Frank Carlton (1950s era)
    Eddie Cunningham
    Lee Gilmore
    Mick Sullivan (1960s)

    Sean Long
    Bobby Goulding

    Andy Platt
    Mickey Higham
    ???????
    Greenwood
    ????????
    ????????

That's as far as I got. Cunningham and Gilmore could go in the pack but I cant think of any other centres.
There's Gus O'Donnell but don't know where I could fit him in.

There was an Aussie prop who did a season at Saints and he was surprised that he became unpopular when he announced he was playing for Wigan the next year bu I cant think of his name.

    Any other suggestions?

Martin Gleeson for centre. Bryn Hargreaves, Ricky Bibey and Mark Flanagan in the pack.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Not strictly by the rules, but Hanley could have probably pulled a shirt back on and played 13 for us!

Charlie Creevey in the 1900s. He saw the error of his ways and returned to Saints.

I only mention this to thank the Saints Heritage site for all the information they put on it. They clearly work hard behind the scenes because Charlie’s biography has been updated to mention a son and grandson who played American Football for Notre Dame University. I seem to be the only one no good at sport!

Did Jeff Clare play for Saints?

I remember him being a very good athlete as a junior, I think he was shot putter and/or discus thrower county and maybe England standard. He played a few games for Wigan in the early 1980's and looked quite promising playing at centre or second row, and was a good goalkicker

I think he suffered a badly broken leg and never really fulfilled that promise, but don't remember him going to Saints.

    According to this
    http://www.saints.org.uk/saints/player.php?num=15073
he came on loan from Wigan, but did not play any matches for Saints.

Jeff Clare was my PE teacher / rugby coach at school and he definitely played for Saints albeit only in the A Team. A great guy and we were all scared to death of him as he was huge and took no crap!
