Default It was only ever going to end this way..

To be honest have not enjoyed this board over the last few weeks.

However that tonight was Saints. We live & die with the drama.

The abuse of Woolfe has been over the top but equally our issues in attack were exposed tonight. That said Wigan only managed one try from an error.

Back to back champions (again) so let's just enjoy that & what a finish to a game.

Already looking forward to next season.

We rarely do ordinary wins in these big games, do we? Always help out the headline writer.

At 79 minutes 59 seconds I had no idea which way it was going to end. Still in disbelief.

    Agreed.

It is a good feeling to know that we are. Champions, however there is still massive room for improvement with ball in hand. Hopefully we can work on this (along with the new signings) and be even stronger next year.

Fair play to woolf. He has improved us as a defensive unit. Now is the time to work on the attack.

Also stayed away from the board for a while for the same reasons, but can't avoid it today.
Left St Helens in 1989 for a years working holiday in NZ and just stayed here.
So pleased for you all over there with the effects COVID will be having on your lives - we've had it relatively easy over here.
Anyway, back on topic. Normally feel very nervous about these games, especially against THEM. However, today I always really felt it would end in a win for the good guys.
Dashed off to work after the video ref gave his call and was a few minutes late. Just got home an hour ago and watched the rest of the aftermath. It feels as good as any time I've ever been watching Saints - have been on such a high all day. To cap it all off, the try has just been shown on the national news a few moments ago.
Best final ever? Probably. Though the Bradford voluntary tackle final would be a close second.
Enjoy the next few days everyone - hopefully take your minds off what is happening around you. Life back to normal over here and it wont be far away for you all too.

One area ive questioned us lately has been our mental strength when things get tough but we had it in spades last night. Even when we went behind late on, we didn’t panic. During the game i was disappointed with our attack. I thought we had enough quality field position in that first half to have scored 3 trys had we been more clinical, but thats a discussion for another day. Todays for enjoying . Im probably just not giving Wigans defence enough credit. It was a GF after all. They should be close. Those blowout score grand finals of 2010, 2001, 2017 etc pale in comparison to last nights game. Last night was a proper Grand Final!

I wouldn't mind one of those blow out scores for the sake of my heart. I feel absolutely frazzled this morning...but in a very good way.

Our coach has been given a lot of stick & after the Cas defeat in March, I was one of them.

Why I post on a message board & Woolf coaches Saints I guess.

At the end of the day this is a forum for discussion about Saints and I for one have been critical of Woolf on here. It would be ridiculously churlish to criticise him after that amazing win but my opinion hasn't actually changed. The problem comes when people don't tolerate other people's opinions and a thread descends into outright bickering that can sometimes cross the line. People's opinions are what they are and we just need to have some healthy discussion... it would be a boring world if we all agreed about everything.

Was expecting it to go to Golden Point, but "Never Write off the Saints" is what we do. It was a Wide to Welsby moment to give us that fantastic last second drama, Tommy Makinson will claim that one to make that happen.

I think last night topped wide to West although it didn't go through as many pairs of hands it was do or die. The mammoth kick from Makinson could have won it but the presence of mind by Welsby was fantastic and the ability to get the ball down before going out of play was something special plus this was in the pressure of the Grand Final against our worst enemy.
On the Back foot looking for the front one.

Probably a daft question but did Saints forfeit taking the conversion to make it 10-4?

Be great to see some unqualified praise on here for Woolf, and Welsby, even through gritted teeth, we are supposed to be Saints supporters so go on give em a cheer.

Fages wants to get on with it, Wigan counting down, this is the last play! Fages plays it, Makinsons calling for it. Roby to Makinson. Makinson fancies it! It's off the post. Its Mak to Jack. Welsby, Welsby, Welllsssbbbyyy. Oh! Oh! Fantastic! They've won it, they've won it!

I think we jus forgot in the euphoria of winning. 10-4 would have looked better in the record books.

I think that last night will be best and more fondly remembered as a close one. No harm done would be my view.

8-4 actually feels better than 10-4 for me - pays more tribute to the deciding 4 pointer being the difference. One I will always remember !!

Agree. And it keeps the game as the lowest ever scoring Grand Final - an appropriate tribute to both defences.

He won't get it from me. The game was crying out for us to open up a bit. Stunning defensive effort and we really toughed it out at times but we were very predictable going forwards. Still though, what a finish.
