    Default End of Season

When we went into lockdown after Cas I doubted we could do top 5 never mind top 4. Then we accelerated and did well no doubt.

Then for some reason we played two wingers on debut and a whole host of other strange decisions against Salford and the LLS deservedly was lost then. Wolfe has to take responsibility.

Wolfe rightly says the prize is retention of Super League and he is right. Well he looks harder than any coach I have seen, he now needs to prove he can pick and lift the right team to retain the trophy.

Over to you Mr Wolfe. It will be interesting.

It’d be great if we won the GF. Woolf needs the win as well because quite a few fan’s have turned against him already, i don’t know if they are annoyed because of his tactics or with us blowing it at Salford, or both.

Awful, dared, boring, one-dimensional tactics. Team underperforming. Become too reliant on Walmsley. Tidiotic obsession with playing the very ordinary Welsby, wherever he can be fitted in. The team and squad we have, we should be walking the LLS and GF.

I can't see us beating wanky, and our season will be over in a fortnight.

At least on the positive side we go into the Play Offs without having the pressure of the favourites tag. That will be with Wigan now and we owe them one if we were to meet in the GF.

Alot of people wrote us off last year too after our Wembley defeat saying we were bottlers and we did OK.

Sure we didn't play well against Wigan last week but we've time to put it right so we just need to get behind them.

Disappointing to lose top spot but not the end of the world in this bizarre, uneven season.

    In a nutshell.

I can't say as I'm shedding too many tears over the loss of the LLS like many, but the chances are it is the only thing we'd have won this year.

Still, much as I'm not fan of Mr. Woolf, hindsight is a wonderful thing. It looked like we needed to protect bodies. Now we'll be underdone. As it happens, my gut feeling is that we are not good enough anyway, not the way we play the game.

Calmly, Hard to see past this.

Low as the standard of the league is, to win you have to be able to offer some threat with the ball.

I just don't see some moves being put together in these two weeks or the development of a menacing kicking game.

I predict the same KC grind , then lacking any ideas and bottled up ,put a couple of balls down.

Woolf spins the narrative that the game their for taking and laments the mistakes.
The reality being we didn't have enough football or variety to really threaten the opposition in a big game.

There will no doubt be many excuses made for being in the state we're in. We have the best 1st team, a great group of younger players in support that gives us the best squad. We walked our way to be Champions in 2019. He inherited all of this. There are no credible excuses.

In comes KW coaching WWF tactics from minute one, changes everything and quickly gets into a flat spin. Rescued somewhat by the break then again reverts to Plan A. Hardly anyone playing as well as 2019, no tactics or moves, no development plans on show. Absolutely no attention to the unloved & frustrated back line, none. Ploughing furrows down the middle wearing out the same players now telegraphing our single option plays, frustrating everyone. He's totally out of his depth. The players look like they've never met each other before each game. Our dominant talismanic full back is completely stunted now assumed following instructions to follow the dour game plan. Dogmatic in his approach & selections. Perseveres with his original assessments of players (or what he was told) in spite of lacklustre performances at the expense of opportunities for others, totally unfair & poor leadership. His team selections for the critical Leeds, Salford, Wigan triangle of games was criminal & lacked any sort of nouse in terms of analysis of the risks and the options showing that he doesn't have the intelligence to manage a range of scenarios & their consequences while considering their impact. It cost the club 100k. Importantly if he stays he'll stunt the development of future players needed in 2022 through his lack of interest & knowledge of them thereby increasing the time period it'll take to recover from his tenure.

He should be sacked for dereliction of duty & good riddance.

No way he warranted selection in the centre over Simm.

Of course nobody is writing him off as you say. He has though I think played more games than all of the other youngsters put together in the positions many of them aspire to. He hasn't stood out for the most part, if he had there would be no argument. Jack needs to spend some time close season reflecting what he wants to be and develop a plan towards it. I don't accept this arrangement of playing anywhere just because Lomax & Wellens did it.

In cricket you don't get a young batsman filling in as a bowler, in football a promising forward doesn't get a chance at left back. No, he needs to develop a specialism or he'll end up a journeyman. KW does him no favours playing him in front of others when he's been average at best last time out, even captain against Salford. It's atrociously bad man management from the coach. Of course Welsby wants to play wherever but he needs saving from himself. Unfortunately he's not standing out anymore, he's plateaued but who is mentoring and guiding him in his skills development and his choices?

Whilst its good for Welsby to get game time on the field at his age Im not sure another season of chopping and changing between positions will do him any favours. With cover for the other backs positions starting to come through Id be tempted to try and loan him out next season. Pick his future position and find a lower super league or upper championship team that will play him there.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

I think this is a good idea but only if as you say there's some work up front establishing this as a development plan towards specialism with measured goals against it.

Good post this. It reads somewhat harshly but you've pretty much got it spot on. The league is of a diabolical standard bar Warrington and we should have walked it really. Wigan aren't that good but it's the way that we are now playing that has brought us back down

I do think the Salford team selection has backfired on him but if it wasn't for a clanger, we would have won the game. That said, play more first teamers and we would have won comfortably.

As an aside, once the Sky money eventually dries up completely or becomes so paltry that we can't afford to run a professional top flight, then it will be left to the people at the turnstiles to save this sport. So we better have a look at certain rules like the ridiculous surrender tackle & how we coach players into robotic planned set after set or trundling it up the middle because I am thoroughly bored. Bored witless.

Queue the 'well the sport doesn't need naysayers like you' responses. Unfortunately, the sport does need me you see as I go to a lot of matches & internationals.

Ralph, you are right. SKY have every right to walk away contract end. I kind of hope they do. I would rather see less money from a BT deal which might force Wakey and sadly HKR out of the elite. Elstone needs to go and the game needs to be run by a real business brand. I would be begging Bet Fred to take us under some agreement, what we have isn't working.

Remember some fans of the game want the top level to fail. They have a vision of Saints taking two thousand fans to say Batley and being propped up by one part time division. That ends the game. Some elite RL clubs then join a hybrid rugby 15 a side no line outs. Saints would be one, it's a business at the end of the day.

We won’t win the Grand Final as I expect Warrington will win easily against us. We play boring one out rugby and if the team we are playing has a good forwards pack we will struggle and that’s what will happen against Warrington. Makinson and Grace only get involved when they take the ball up the middle on the first few tackles.

Woolf has taken a Grand Final winning team and taken us back to the days of KC and I’m hoping Woolfe will be gone if we don’t win the GF.

Not sure Welsby will be very ordinary in the future, but for yes now. You are being kind saying over reliant On Walmsley, AW is his only option. He has all but killed Coote joining the line, I don't ever remember our wingers seeing so little ball. I would fancy us against Wanky after the loss to Wigan. If we do win the GF, I may be able to forgive, but not forget him throwing away the LLS. If he doesn't win anything this year he has been an abject failure. On a side note is there any financial benefit to a GF win??

And I'll happily admit I'm wrong as I always do. Check previous threads and I hold my hands up every time.

And I'll definitely have to on this one because if we win the final, then our play will have improved significantly

If we do get to the final it'll be seen as a vindication of his leadership & style so he wouldn't then abandon it at that stage.
