Hmmm didn't see that coming. You'd think that would confirm Peyroux is going as they are in a similar mould in terms of the positions they'd cover. He is predominantly a 2nd rower or a centre.

Thompson, Bentley and Mata’utia is going to be an interesting three way tussle for the two second row spots next year, I’ll be sad to see Peyroux go (amazingly) but I’m not sure where he’d get a game...

One things for certain, the squad were building at the moment has competition for spots all over the park

Definitely mate. Just posted a list in the OOC thread; plenty competition and depth.

Say it quietly but we are looking pretty strong for next year. Three good overseas signings and a host of good kids pushing for first team places

If we could manage to sign a project prop ala Walmsley too that would be a serious pack on top of what we already have.

Maybe he's thinking this lad will be a bit of cover for Percival's gammy hammy.

Nobody could accuse this of being the signing of someone coming to retire on the face of it. Don't know if him but suffice to say he has representative honours in Australia which is enough for me. Significantly better use of the cap cash.

The club shop will have to order some proper apostrophes in for the shirts & practise their spelling.

This could be a great signing for us, I think he's a very good player.

Has the Paarsi signing been confirmed?

Woolf must know him well if he’s played at the Knights.

Are the Newcastle Knights Mata’utias related to Vila?

I'm not sure, he is the younger brother of Peter who plays for Castleford, so he might settle in quickly with family already here. Sounds a like for like signing to Peyroux rather than Taia.

Started out as a three quarter. Bulkier these days but still has a bit of pace i imagine. Granted i don’t think he ever lived up to the expectations surrounding him as a youngster but he will still be a good signing for us.

Only 24 and played all those NRL seasons, looks like a good signing.

Without sounding like a party pooper, are we not getting a bit too excited a little prematurely?

This feels different from the Thompson announcement whereby every outlet in Aus were saying it was a done deal. As far as I’m aware we have League Express and one outlet in Aus saying we are “closing in”.

I think Evalds is a great, pacy runner and he’s very safe under a high ball but he doesn’t offer the same link up play and left sided kicking game that Coote does. We would have to reshuffle our troops in that respect. Mind you, Barba’s skill was running but we didn’t win anything with him did we? Lomax might fit the bill if his body is still up to it but then we’d need a new stand off possibly? I honestly think we’ve got Welsby pencilled in there.

Two very good but totally different players. Coote is an organiser, a great defender and the glue that holds our backline together. Evalds is a safe pair of hands with pace to burn most players off the park

Left sided kicking game comes from Dodd. And by no means am I knocking Coote, I'd be more than happy to see him stay if he's still fit and wants to be here.

For me when coote does leave id like to see welsby given the 1 jersey, yes hes shakey under a high ball but he will get better with practice and time

I second that, looks a good prop in an average team, could be a serious player with better players around him.

Stated by me on here quite sometime ago. He looks a decent front rower.

Am I allowed to say Shane Webcke or is that a bit old now?
