They'll have 3 grounds on standby, ours, HJ and Headingley to cover all eventualities. It has to be neutral.

Yes I think that'll be the case..

It'll be more interesting to see where the Semi Finals will be held, will they go for one venue or neutral venues

Can personally see them going with the highest placed team available - in all likelihood Saints

That would be fair, kind of a “reward” for finishing top.

I don’t see why we can’t have socially distanced fans there for the semi/final.
Can't stop the spirits when they need you.

This life is more than just a read through.

For me, it has to be still held on a neutral ground.

Headingly is the best RL ground so play there. If Leeds are in the final with us then Halliwell Jones. Let's face it, there aren't too many solely RL grounds out there.

I presume you're excluding Saints on the best stadium front..

Easiest solution whoever isn't in the final from Saints, Leeds and Wire.

I'm guessing SL will be hoping against all hope some fans could be back come the end of November

That was my thought, but what if Catalans finish top 2? If they are allowed fans it would be unfair to take that from them if they’ve earned a home semi final. If they finish outside of the 2 then I agree, play both at the ground of the LL.

Sadly, I can’t see them allowing that due to the extra COVID risk involved in flying everyone to France and back the week before the final.

I presume most people are working on the premise of us being in the final so picking a neutral venue. My choice would be 1. our stadium 2. Headingley 3. Halliwell Jones. Pick the top one out of those depending on who gets to the final to make it a neutral venue.
Forwards win games. The backs decide by how much.

Does anyone know if the SJP idea actually had any legs? I can’t believe we would even consider hauling teams up to Newcastle to play in an empty stadium.

I’m a little of two minds about this. I understand that it doesn’t matter that much where you play if the place is empty, but I’m also of the opinion that Finals should look and feel different from normal games. The whole point of the Grand Final was to make it the showpiece event, where apparently big players and big teams proved themselves in front of the biggest crowd on the biggest stage. Playing the game at an empty HJ, Headingley or LP will make the game look and feel no different from dozens we’ve seen since lockdown. At least playing it at a bigger stadium makes the game feel different and more important, much like I’m sure Saturday felt different for Leeds and Salford even if Wembley was empty.

I’d be open to the idea of trying to find a financially suitable alternative to playing it at a club ground, just for the look and feel of it all, and if possible do a deal with a venue for the 2020 GF and a future Magic Weekend for example to keep the initial costs down and sweeten the deal.

As a few have explained, we aren’t ignoring LP, we simply don’t want it to host the Grand Final because we want Saints to be in it. The GF needs to be a neutral venue so LP is being written off as an option because if any Saints fan says that they want it to be there it also means that they don’t want Saints to be in it.

I suspect it will come down to cost above all else. The only way to make it look and feel different than the current super league games is renting out a football ground or union stadium and I imagine there’ll be a significant cost compared to using an RL ground, six figure fee quoted for St James’ Park apparently. Not sure how much advance notice they’d need either. If we had fans allowed in I’d say it mattered having a bigger venue but I think saving money is a more of a priority at the moment.

If it’s on a par price wise with using a super league ground then fair enough. Personally I’d rather use the money we’d rent a stadium with and invest it in the grassroots RL clubs that could be struggling at the moment.
