Just one of those things I reckon, I'm sure the medical staff did their best to sort it. At least they've realised it's beyond their remit and paid for a specialist to have a crack. Hope it works.
As others have said, it'll be good to see Simm get a couple months 1st team experience and get a proper look at the lad

More about preferring to give a youngster an extended run and not shoe horning an older pro in for the sake of it. So in principle yes. He has to apply some modicum of common sense though if there's a problem that develops, he has to protect the team and results but the default should be to support the development opportunity and not to disregard this part of his role. The squad can only benefit in the longer term. As you said somewhere earlier there's a tendency to revert to short termism in his decisions.

Good to see that he has already had the surgery. I hope it is successful, for him and the team.
According to the tweet he's posted it looks like he's focussing on 2021 which is no bad thing, I with him a full recovery but it needs time.

Absolutely love the anticipation of Josh Simm getting an extended run in percivals absence. One mistake off Simm and the forum will go into meltdown!
Last year- big clamour to get Welsby in the team then he was hammered, Dodd the next saviour and the new coming. Matthew Lees written off! Fickle fans!!!
Give the young lads the chance they deserve and, please, cut them some slack when , not if, they make mistakes.
Im glad they got to the bottom of it. No doubt Percy will come back hungrier than ever in 2021.
screaming in the family corner, scaring the kiddies
You’ve not mentioned the way some on here were keen to write off Lomax when he had recurrent injury problems but well said.
Percival and Grace both had impressive first team debuts but that can’t happen in every case. We all want to see youngsters introduced but we also need to accept that some of them will take time to bed in. I do hope that Simm is given a good run out in Percival’s absence.
Should be slightly easier for Simm settling into his favoured position similar to Grace. Welsby did get hammered on here and still does he has had 23 appearances so far but only had 4 games in his favoured position at 6. Dodd will only get a start at half back and won't be put in at Full Back, Wing or Centre so I expect him to play a natural game looking forward to see him on a full debut.
I don't think Matty Lees has been written off he just hasn't got the form to be in the first 17 but we don't have any alternative props to choose from so he's learning the hard way with a basic role.
When players get a hamstring (or similar) injury, they'll look to identify the injury and treat that. 9 times out of 10 that does the trick - it was just a plain old random strain/tear. It's only when there's a recurrence that they'll do a more 'belt & braces' investigation to try to pinpoint an underlying cause.
Could well be Costello in centre. He's ahead of Simm?
Simm has already made a mistake in rushing out of the line, but no one on here went into meltdown as he is young and in his natural position. People only give Welsby some criticism as he is being played all over the place and certainly isn't comfortable on the wing, once he was at 6 it was obvious he has talent.
True.
HIs first couple of appearances at FB looked promising, but then he struggled with a couple of bombs and lost confidence. He's looked unsuited at centre and has done alright on the wing (his in-out try the other week was neat). But, like you say, when given an outing at 6, he looked good.
I think a fair bit of criticism that Welsby's had is down to frustration at him being picked in positions he's not really suited for, something we as a club have repeatedly done with players for many years, just to fit them in the team.
Huge loss if he’s done for the season though. Been one of our most important players for a while now. Percival not being there also means that teams can put more pressure on Lomax down that left edge. That said, it gives Simm an opportunity and we’ve got a few games now to get him up to speed in that position.
Wish him all the best with his recovery.

We might start attacking a bit more down the right edge, Naiqama has been a bit below par for at least 7 games so if he gets a more regular service then his form will improve. That could take a bit of pressure off Simms but hopefully he will generate a partnership with Grace after a couple more games.
