I hope Welsby is nowhere near the 17 for Sunday, he’s not a fullback, centre or winger. He should only be used if he’s playing in the halves.

Overplayed and overhyped (neither his fault). He looked shot to bits at Cas.

The break should have done him some good.
He has significant talent but lacks out and out pace.

Be interesting to see if the new rules signal the demise of the 3rd prop at 13
and more of a ball player.
If so that could be his ultimate position. Currently 6 looks like the best fit for him.

His confidence had taken some hits early on, he definitely needs time away from the first team for his own sake, the problem is where is he meant to get get his confidence back, given the lack of games outside the first team schedule. There is a rugby player in there, we just need to find out where he fits best.

What does everyone think about our bench? Do we run with Smith covering for Roby like we have for some time now or do we keep the bench forward heavy for rotation and fitness issues? Bench maybe Lees, LMS, Amor, Bentley ? Guessing we are going to have breaks in play like the football did for fitness reasons.

I think with the whole 6 again scenario Smith has to be in the 17, a quick dummy half will be a necessity later on in the game with the space that is likely to be there, brought on by sides not being able to slow the play the ball down to a crawl, stressing teams fitness.

I doubt we will have breaks like football did,we have played in the summer for years now and not had them. One of Smith or Bently on the bench with the faster forwards like LMS and Lees coming on at a tired defence. Hopefully Catalan are their usual ill disciplined selves

Has the kick off time been changed.?

I've seen it mentioned elsewhere that the kick off has been brought forward because the Toronto game has gone.

Sky show the programme coming on at 3.30pm

BBC sports website says 4.15pm so is it just 45 minutes of Sky waffle

3:30pm will be the programme start, 4:15pm is the KO time.

Didn’t realise that S Tomkins, Mead, Tierney and Simon were missing for Catalans. They’re going to have to have a reshuffle of their backs, so this could be to our advantage.

If Tomkins missing means Folau plays fullback that could be an even bigger challenge trying to stop him.

Tomkins is definitely missing. He’s suspended.

I know he is, the ‘if’ was to do with whether Folau would play fullback in his place

I would think Tomkins is quite happy about that, he would be having nightmares of Walmsley stampeded over him time and time again as per last seasons game.

I am anything but confident that we will score the first or last tries but it is not in my makeup to back against us so here's my selections.

    first try Percy 11/1.
    last try Theo 20/1.

Only fair to add if you do have a flutter bet responsibly & do not bet more than you can afford. ........ if you do good luck.

If this 6 again rule had been around for the past 10 years we would have won every trophy available with Roby picking up about 10 Harry Sunderland trophies lol.

And with proper MOS voting he would have had a handful of them.

Yeh mate. I wouldn’t go to the point of saying its a conspiracy against Saints, but when they changed the rules to cater for the defending team 10-15 years ago (and slow down off the cuff quick play of the ball rugby) it really kicked us in the knackers.
Saints moulded Roby to follow in the footsteps of Cunningham then the sport moved the goalposts. Thats my take on it anyway. The sports been dire ever since the momentum was given to the defending team.

    That's a bit of a reach.

Our fallow years in SL were largely down to several poor pieces of expensive recruitment,
overestimating certain batches of youth, and refusing to sign pace.

It didn't help Roby or Saints , and it did hurt saints , but wasn't the root cause.

I'm looking forward to seeing the ball being give more width and the effect of fatigue.
Just hope that Percival and Peyroux both over-crabbing inside has been addressed to
make the most of the new freedom.
