Hetherington at Leeds has said that there should be a vote to replace Toronto based off stadium, finances, commercial potential, player pathways and attendances. Not sure there’s a clear winner in the Championship from the likes of Fev, Leigh, London and Toulouse but I’d be up for a weekend in Toulouse.

Whilst i am not a fan of the Toronto project, Hetherington has some nerve raising stadium as a reason, given that other members of the Yaaarkshire mafia have blokes ••••ing up walls in their decrepit stadia.

There’s probably 4/5 Championship clubs who would rank very similarly to 4/5 Super League clubs.

Sorry fellas, but what a mess!!! I’m reading a book about the Tests of the 50s & 60s. England was so powerful and gave us some right hidings. How things have changed. I hope SL can work things out. Toronto sounded great in theory ..::

If you add Widnes, Leigh, Fev into the analysis Cas and Wakey are bottom

Based on stadia, yes. Based on other things, probably not bottom at all.

Will get a boat load of cash and probably a finals appearance, better than what he'd be getting staying at TWP

Good player but we're not exactly short on centre's.

Chris Irvine has written a piece in today’s Sunday Times. It’s behind the paywall and I don’t want to breach copyright by copying and pasting but his main point was that Toronto were seen as ‘the cherry on the cake’ in relation to the new TV deal. The game needs the next rights to be better or at least match the current one or we are facing the potential of going semi pro if the new deal means clubs cannot meet their current costs which they only meet now due to the Sky money. Irvine is the of the opinion that no Toronto seriously harms that possibility.

Very good article from McManus. Probably not to Hetherington's liking.

I want him staying right here, but anyone else think McManus would be great leading SL or even the RFL?

Agree with you on both your points, He seems to put the interests of the game before any self interest. I hope other Chairmen take note of his comments on any voting being a conflict of interest.

Eamon is far too clever for the RFL. Big Nige suited the organisation, Politician, he knew the buttons to press and how to survive. If any of you have really seen the inner workings of a medium sized trade union, then that is the RFL, I worked with them and the good people were seen as a threat and generally moved on.

Hetherington is a bent Yorkshire w#@&er, and he only see anything if it is in his best interests. But an away trip to Toulouse does sound like a fantastic idea!

He's basically agreeing with the Hetherington article in League Express a couple of weeks ago.

Hetherington: We need a process to select a twelth club
McManus: It is vital that next year’s competition is a twelve-team competition

Hetherington: Responsibility for selecting the twelfth club should lie jointly with the RFL and Super League executives, but not the clubs. The appointed group should set clear and transparent criteria for selection.
McManus: Let the RFL and [SLE CEO Robert Elstone] come up with the criteria... There is an unacceptable level of conflict of interest involved for... any other SLE member club.

Hetherington: [this] throws up issues about the corporate governance of Super League.
McManus: Super League Europe’s reputation is already at an all-time low ebb.

Hetherington: the incoming club should receive the same distribution as the other clubs.
McManus:all twelve clubs, regardless of where they are based, should have equal central distribution

Hetherington: [Toronto] have achieved a great deal, not least healthy support and a cut-through in a great city like Toronto. I hope that isn’t all thrown away.
McManus: [We should give] Toronto a chance to present an alternative business strategy. It is incumbent upon us to give [Toronto] such an opportunity

These are two of the most pro-realistic expansion club bosses in the league, both of whom are against pinching other club's TV money (both in this case and I think in the case of Bradford's several years ago). It's not a surprise to see them aligned on this; I suspect Lenagan for example is not.
