    Lyon.

Did anyone on here think he’d be as good as he was? Especially when he rocked up about 2 stone overweight

Expected him to be good, when in fact he was an all time great for us. I don't think anyone could have imagined just how good he would be.

    Maurie Fa’asavalu
    Dominic Feaunati (for a spell)
Nik Fozzard - became one of my all time favourite props
    Paul Anderson
Leon Pryce - didn’t expect him to be as good as he was for us at stand off
Dom Peyroux after his 2nd season

Bryn Hargreaves was one I thought “wtf have we signed him for” after we’d had Stuart Jones and Ricky Bibey, who were awful but he was decent for us for a spell and I remember wanting his contract extended when we let him go.

As for Gleeson, i always remember a lot of folk at the time of his signing saying ‘this nobody from Huddersfield isn’t good enough for us’. I went to a pre season friiendly in 2002. He put Darren Albert away for a try with a flick pass and i thought ‘wow! This lad can play!’
    I always liked Gleeson.
Just watching Saints and Leeds CC Semi from 2002 Gleesons pass to Albert for our second try was sublime. Great player, especially earlier in his career.

I thought Stuart Jones was a decent player. Not big enough, ultimately, but he was a good grafter.

The trouble we had was we already had Bennett, Jonkers and Stankeveitch, that were all grafting back rowers. He was a decent enough player, but just not what we needed at the time. Hadn't we just signed Wilkin too?

Yeah that’s right. I think it’s clear he wasn’t good enough for Saints, but he was a decent player.

Not sure if he's been mentioned but Apollo should be on the list imo.

McVey was one of my fave players we've ever signed - especially as no one over here had ever heard of him at the time.

I mentioned him in the opening post. Like you say, nobody had ever heard of him, yet he tore some teams apart with running great angles and a superb offload game. He was amazing in the Derby game at KR in the magnificent 1996 season (one of my favourite ever games). Pickavance weren't too shabby, either.

Can't wonder why nobody has mentioned Turbo Darren Albert one of the best wingers to play superleague.

Wasn't he a junior sprint champion or something? I remember him going about 80 yards at Valley Parade when we battered Bradford and thinking he was the fastest player I've ever seen.
