Good, he's crap.
The only reason he is still at the club is the lack of cover in the backs, if Swift had stayed Costello would most likely gone out to a Championship club.
Nothing against the lad but he is just a filling in type player. Probably not going to progress much more with us.
Squad player that can fill in for a game or two but not a long term option and not someone who’s going to oust Percival or Naiqama. More than happy to see him try and get a regular place elsewhere. That leaves us with Josh Simm as cover, which I’m happy with.
St Helens Rugby League Football Club
His agents played a blinder getting him another Super League club.
I’d rather see Costello at centre than Welsby.
Don't know anything about Simm. Costello always gave 100% but just doesn't have it for SL, He may get more game time at Salford, so good luck to him.
Costello has already signed for Salford.
Salfords coach has a good record with bringing players on .
I think Costello has had the easier introduction into the team he has played 44 game mostly at centre or wing, Welsby has played 12 games at Wing, Centre, Stand Off and Full Back you need to take into account that 6 of his games has been in a pivotal position which has exposed his inexperience, put the same scenario to Costello and he would really struggle for confidence. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Costello start as a full back but never really played in that position for the first team.

He is a pretty good player.
Is he going to be good enough to bump Kev or Percy out of the team. That looks unlikely.
Is he worth giving game time to over Welsby or even Simm. Probably not.
He is worth keeping around but it will be as a squad player. If he gets a starting spot and more money it could be a good move for him.
I could agree with you but then we would both be wrong.
If he does leave then we must sign a cover for wing center next year as we will be going into new season with only kids who dont have much first team experiance if any. Nit saying they have to be as good as percy or makinson but someone who can fill the gaps if injuries
Whilst I understand what you are saying, most young players are used when teams have injuries. Makinson was used as centre, wing and fullback, Percival got plonked in due to injuries and never really dropped back out, Lomax was a utility bench player for his first few seasons (i think he filled in all the back positions and even spelled at hooker if i recall correctly). Unfortunately, in a capped sport, strength in depth isn't really an option. Situations like last season with players like Richardson and Swift kicking their heels, with Luke Douglas on dual-reg then loan, probably won't occur again.
The truth is our strongest 13 even without Thommo is still a very good side .
We have to pray none of these get a serious injury because the reserves are
average at best If Paulo is a sample of the type of player we are going sign from
NRL God plz help us .
The writings been on the wall since Woolf played knowles at centre instead of him.
He’s a decent stop gap but nothing more.

Costello was listed as "No offer" on the OoC list. So that would seem to confirm his move to Salford.
