Default Greg Inglis - Signed for Warrington

Wowsers like. What a signing that is. Retired 12 months ago due to injury, not because they were career ending but because he felt he was no longer able to play to the standards he set himself.

Stunning signing at a time when Gary Hetherington is ringing his mates in the Yorkshire mafia asking for support for his bid to reduce the salary cap to £1.8m from £2.1m. Warrington and Saints look like they are going to spend the £2.1m so they can shrug their shoulders when the reduction is introduced.

Had to check that it wasn’t April 1st or it wasn’t part of some bizarre marketing nonsense like the flyover to check it was legit.

Warrington, the Saracens of Rugby League, without the success obviously. Its an impossibility that they are below the salary cap now, signing Inglis is not going to cost nothing.

I’m sceptical but he’s certainly capable of coming over and having a similar impact that Barba had for us. Providing he has the appetite for it that is.

Didn't he retire due to medical grounds? They will announce Sam Burgees next.

I'm sceptical if he'll be fit but I don't think so.

Gets people in the ground & more exposure for Super League. Well done to Warrington for pulling that one off

Before his injury he was one of the best players in the world

If he is coming over here it suggests that Aussie clubs may not be keen to take a punt on him.

If I was a neutral fan I'd say it was great for the game over here , but as a Saints fan

Officially no. He said at the time it had nothing to do with injury.

This is going to go one of two ways. He either has the passion for playing again and is reasonably fit and plays well. Or he is an injury prone crock on a big wage. After reading the reports on his retirement i would lean towards the latter.

Fair play to Warrington, can’t fault the ambition and all that but he’ll be 34 by next season and won’t have played in nearly two years. Clearly, they’ll be paying him daft money for a year as well. Exciting signing but I’m not sure he’ll have the impact expected. Screams typical Warrington.

Wonder what loop hole they have found to exclude his salary?

Reading on another site, fans claiming he's just using what Ben Murdock-Masila leaving frees up....I some how think he'll be on more than BMM was.

Widdop, Inglis...who is next? What are Warrington using in their sales pitch? "Body unable to take the NRL game anymore? Fancy a final pay day? If you're interested call Steve"

If he takes it seriously, he will be a real handful. Can play fullback, wing or centre & is about 17 stone. Can't see him having too much trouble against SL three quarters

Fair play to them. Even if he's not the player he once was, it's a real coup. I much prefer this sort of thing to the antics of the cabal of Yorkshire clubs who are currently trying to get the salary cap further reduced.

I wouldn’t mind borrowing the calculator they use for their salary cap to work out my wages.

Fair play to them provided it's within the cap but another aussie boosting his pension for me. Great player a few years ago.

Would Jamie Lyon not be interested in a 1yr deal?

He’s only on £2500 a month. That’s the most you can pay someone on furlough

Joking aside it’s a great signing for SL and I’ll be happy to see him on the pitch.

I agree, I can't pretend I'm even slightly pleased but it's a pretty impressive signing whatever the circumstances. I can't for the life of me think how they're under the cap though.

With Widdop and Austin their marquee players, is one going or are they paying Inglis a basic wage due to him being retired.

It could be a great signing for Warrington but when you look at other players who have previously retired and then come back to play out of retirement they have more than often than not been shadows of themselves. Clubs should be looking to find the next Greg Inglis as at 34 next season he definitely isn't the long term future.
