I've got some old copies of Fiesta hidden in my Mam's garage, gonna liberate them this week.
The days when we were teenage boys and had to hide our mucky books in the garage or under the bed... can still feel the nervousness when my mother was hoovering my bedroom and the shame when she came down and said "look what I found"...
Today's adolescents get it too easy with an internet connection and incognito tabs.
The only time I ever got busted for it was actually Rugby related as I had a mucky magazine in my kit bag thinking she wouldn't go in there and I could hide it later, only I forgot to hide it and had dirty kit in there. I still remember her calling me downstair, confronting me with the offending article and cracking me round the head with it. She was probably as embarrassed as I was to be fair.
Years later, my brother was about 18-19 and had been out. He came home and had obviously not pulled so decided to watch one of the adult channels on Sky, done what he needed to and promptly fell asleep, TV still on the same channel so when my Dad came down in the morning it went back to the same channel just as I walked in with my then girlfriend, that was a good day and I wound him for weeks with that, I even told one of the lads he worked with who knew one of his mates so it spread very quickly.
My "claim to fame" is that I was already 6 foot when I was 14 and had started to develop fairly strong stubble by that stage too so I looked a lot older than I was. I made a few quid by buying mags and then selling them for inflated prices in the schoolyard . In a sense my first job was as a peddler of porn...
Some really priviledged people on here. My only experience of such publications was having someone excitedly knock on the door and exclaim 'we found one'. Then we'd go trapsing through bushes or the woods to a partial, crusty, dirt and worm covered magazine and the contents would be exaggerated in ever growing chinese whispers until every one ever found had a major celebrity in it, that it definitely didn't have in it. Kids these days don't know they're born.
Saddened the only bush you ever crawled through belonged to Mary Millington. These kids can never have the thrills of forbidden fruit. I am now about to read "a hand in the blouse of my sister" by R Wigan.
No mention of clothing catalogues yet, you surprise me!

Loyal and true, not a glory hunter.
When I worked in PNG we had a wall of shame, a •••• taking picture of everyone in the office (container) and an equally bad picture of their partner. I was single at the time so I got the hand of one of the manky cleaners who looked and smelled like she lived with their prize pigs.
A bit more than halfway through Reading Rugby League in Twentieth Century Britain by Tony Collins now. Obviously I knew union and league weren't exactly bosom buddies but I honestly never realised quite how truly obnoxious union was towards league. It's an eye-opener.
When I am not writing my novels, I love reading books about the history of our game. "Rugby League in Twentieth Century Britain" is high on my list of favourites and so is "Rugby's Great Split", again written by Tony Collins. A third one is "Rugby League in its own words" written by Tim Wilkinson and the sadly departed Ray Gent.
Thanks for the recommendations. I have the Great Split one already and plan to read it soon enough. I'll look out for the other.
I think I am right in saying that Collins is both a league and a union fan which perhaps gives additional credibility to his criticisms of union.
I think that Tony Collins could be described as a big rugby league fan, with a Hull KR background and very interested in the history of rugby union.
Thanks. I'm enjoying the first book I've read of his. Will be looking out for the others.
Another very good read for sports history is ‘A Devilish Pastime’ a history of all the football codes. It’s certainly enlightening as to how American Football evolved from Rugby, apparently the Americans didn’t like the arbitrary way rules could be interpreted so evolved a more structured game.
Been really enjoying reading documents regarding project requirements and specifications, especially when the file corrupted and wiped itself.
