    Default Mike McClennan

Bit short notice but a feature on Mike McClennan currently showing here on NZ TV. For live link....

It will be available for viewing later on the same site shortly.

A few mentions of St Helens, including the fact that he was wearing his favourite Saints trackie top when he left home for the last time. Very sad.

Sometimes when you see an unintentional head tackle penalised by the referee you think the game has gone soft, but an item like this certainly brings home the fact that a lot of players we used to love watching have developed dementia in later years, far more than the normal working man and women, it's particularly sad when you see sportsman you idolised in your youth succumbing to the illness, so it's only right that tackling techniques will have to be improved

Absolutely. Makes you wonder if all the bangs to the head have also played a role in Rob Burrow developing MND as well. Player safety has to take a higher priority than it once did.

    But it doesn’t does it?
How many high shots were there in that Roosters game? Many, yet not one of those offending players sin binned. I must point out that so supine and lickspittle has our game become that I believe English refs have given Aussie teams a huge slice of the doubt for years: ItÂ’s amazing what the prospect of a couple of test matches in Australasia can do if you toe their line.

But without digressing even in an age where the Legal cases against the NFL has shown how much of a topical issue head injuries are, RL still lags behind in attitude and policing this issue.

The easy argument is the sport is a fast, collision game but that is pointing out the obvious. The real challenge is to mitigate the risks these head injuries can cause to peoples health as opposed to the bull shit alpha male that itÂ’s an mans game.Â’ It might be but it probably wonÂ’t feel as macho for people who are damaged later in life. I wonder what it’s going to take for the RGL to start treating head injuries more seriously and the sport as a whole to stop ••••ing about taking the •••• out of the rules that we do have - Warrington being an absolute disgrace of a team in this respect.
